  1. Would you mind posting some pics. I was thinking of adding one...

  3. Thank you for the feedback, is the 'lock ring' the bolted on plate (I have both of those) or is it the ring that is also pressed on the axle shaft behind the bearing? I am not sure because one axle had the extra ring and the other one (passenger) didn't. Do you know if left and right are the same length?

  5. My passenger side was leaking so I changed it by pulling out the axle and pressing in a new seal ~1.36" ID. There was a very slight polished zone on the axle shaft itself and the seal seems to be holding, no new oil leaking. Then I thought, since I was dirty anyway, to do the driver side. Two things were different. There was a ring pressed on the axle just next to the bearing (not sure what this is or if it's supposed to be there), and there was some silicone seal applied to the outer edge of teh seal in there. I pulled it and replaced it with the same seal as the passenger side, but now have a major leak on the driver side. There was slightly more grooving on the axle. If I try to use one of the sleeves, are there special seals for this? Should I put RTV sealant around the seal OD. I test fitted the seals and they appeared snug, not tight on the axle. I appreciate any help.

  7. You may want to check the environmental control switches that are attached to the know you turn left or right. There's a wheel with cogs in it that make or disconnect contact with the AC system. Since my radio is out, it's really easy to see it work. Just a thought...
  8. I didn't think of that, I will have to check if I have the same problem again. Seems like by rebending the arm on the vacuum diaphragm it now clears the plate with the pertronix module. I also added some threadlock to the set screw. Seems to be running good now.
  9. I have a pressure check manifold set and a/c was converted over to R134, but I'm not sure which way to turn the roto-lock valve when checking or adding R134. The Hayes and Chiltons, just tell you to take it to a shop. Anyone ever done this? The roto lock valves are kind of chewed up.
  10. All I can guess is the vacuum advance working back and forth is rubbing on the pertronix plate and possibly working the screw loose resulting in a changed gap. I did notice that the new vacuum advance didn't line up exactly and seemed to biasing the plates toward the top of the distributor. I think the arm coming off the vacuum diaphragm needs to be 'bent' slightly.
  11. Did you go with power or manual?
  12. I'm having trouble getting the plate that the pertronix module sits on to stay put. I just installed a new vacuum advance and it seems now that it's causing the plate with the pertronix module to slightly change the gap to the magnetic pickup. There appears to be only 1 screw that holds the pertronix part in place relative to the rotating magnetic pickup. Is that how it shoudl be? According to Pertronix installation instructions, the gap should be 0.030". When the gap changes to something like 0.020", the car bogs under heavy acceleration (did this to me on the way to work today) or won't start at all (as happened when I first installed the vacuum advance). Funny thing is that when there is virtually no gap and just touching the magnetic pickup, it runs great. It was installed by the previous owner. If pictures would help, I'll take some tonight. Any suggestions?? Thank you.
  13. I forgot to ask. How do you remove it? Mine had a leak and probably needs replacing.
  14. Thank you. I do plan on keeping the AC. So the vacuum line turn on and off vavles needed for the AC to work properly. I guess I need to get a manual to check out the vacuum diagram.
  15. I found a vacuum canister in the front passenger wheel well and in the engine bay there are two small lines that come from it. Just for fun I plugged one line and pumped a vacuum with a brake bleeder pump. It didn't hold a vacuum for long. Two quetions.. What is this can used for and how do you get it out? Thanks, David 69 with 302, with AC and Power Steering (Ram).
