  1. The reason for the flat black vice glossy back from the factory is to reduce the reflection glare of sunlight off of the hood.
  2. I can refurbish or replace your headlight harness (if not for a tach car...I'm out of those for replacement) for $100. I bring it back to factory electrical conditions. To remove the headlight harness from the fusebox, unscrew the bolt on the fuse box inside the passenger compartment as mentioned by MN69Grande. Then go to the firewall and push on two tabs on opposite sides (gently!) and then pull straight back towards the front of the car.

  4. Them's fighting words! Calling a Texan a Yankee...you should know better than that.
  5. Send it in! I'm running short on 66's.
  6. That tool will NOT work fishing wires through an existing wire bundle/grommet, but is designed for grommets that simply cover holes.
  7. I dunno about losing storage; my tool shed keeps growing the more ice cream I eat...*sigh*
  8. As I said, I fish the wires through the wire bundle of the grommet with a lot of effort... I got the harness today, and I see some wire nuts on the ignition switch wiring, but I can fix that up no sweat.
  9. I routinely run one or two extra lines through the firewall grommet, but I have a technique that I'd like to keep private: trade secret. It ain't easy to do, though...
  10. There's two basic areas of failures with Ford tachs. On the input side is a transformer; if it breaks, then current can't pass through the tach on to the coil, which happens a fair amount of time. The second area of failure is in the gauge mechanism itself. When that fails, the car can still run with the tach hooked up.
  11. When bored at work (which rarely happens), I look at eBay to see what's out there. Today, I searched Mustang underdash harnesses, which usually has way overpriced used stuff where folks claim it was refurbished. Looking closely at the pictures, it usually indicates broken wires and such, all for $600+. Outrageous! Today, a 69 with AC with listed for $49.99, BIN. The pictures showed it was easily refurbishable with minor damage, well within my desires for really good cores. Two people were watching this listing. Screw them: I snapped it up as my standard core charge is $50. As you know, the 69 and 70's are my biggest sellers (see http://1969stang.com/forum/index.php/topic/55726-reaching-a-milestone/ and I'm always short of good cores. Finding something on eBay listed at normal core charges and a good $250 less than anything else was a surprise. He browses, he clicks, he scores!!!!

    SCORE!!

It is now 25 or 6 to 4.

It's found inside the spare tire (either the trunk or your torso)...
  14. That's waaaay too high a curb idle speed right now. By lowering the idle speed, your car now surges, a classic indication of a vacuum leak or a bad carb. It sounds like you set the idle speed so that the carb is using the intermediary circuits and not the idle circuits. A vacuum leak and/or plugged idle circuitry is most likely, IMHO.
  15. I'm gonna stick to the vintage wiring; at least I can read the schematics all on one page!

    A Miracle!

My posts should only count as spam if they were posted in Cyrillic. Now then, is anyone interested in breast augmentation chemicals? I have links! *G*

    A Miracle!

This morning was the first since I don't know when, when there was not a single spam post. OMG!
  18. That's what my wife says when she first met me...
  19. I always use dielectric grease on the horn circular contacts, just as a lubrication and to minimize wear on the springed horn contacts.
  20. They are always tied together with a manual transmission, but switched on/off by the gear selector/neutral safety switch that typically attaches to the automagic tranny.
  21. Yes, those are the two wires. All you need now is to hook them up to a switch when your tranny is backing up.
  22. Yes, black/red wires are for backup lights; red/blue are for starter/crank/NSS.

No, but I give some of my cats flying lessons every night...
  24. My experience is the best quality doors are found during MCA National shows. Look to the Thoroughbred or Concours section; bring the appropriate wrenches but be discrete about things...
