  1. I tested from the end female plug and got 0V so looks like there is something wrong in the underdash. What is next to check? Fuses? Power to the ignition switch? I appreciate all the help!
  2. Will do. Thank you for your help. I doubt it is the underdash since that got sent out to you. Probably something in the engine harness. I'll try and test tonight when I get home and let you know.
  3. Yes something is wrong. In the Run position I get no voltage to the coil. What could be the problem?
  4. If I understand correctly though in the RUN position the circuit bypasses the resistor wire and provides direct voltage to the coil. The car will fire if I am cranking it but as soon as I release the key it dies. That is why I was thinking it was the resistor wire. I will test voltage in the RUN position today and post back.
  5. Sorry by the On position I meant accessory. Is that also the Run position, just for clarity? I measured from the cable to the negative battery terminal and got 0V. That should still give me the same thing as to battery ground right? Checked battery and it was at 12.26V.
  6. Alright all. I cleaned out the carb as I thought that was the problem however it was not as dirty as I had perviously thought. Got everything reinstalled new gaskets and everything and am still having a starting issue. I believe the issue is with the resistor wire to the ignition coil. I have a buddy coming over later this week to help test more but with the key in the On position I get 0V to the coil when placing negative to battery - and positive to + on coil. This typically means the resistor wire has gone bad correct? I tested it with the connection both attached to the coil and pulling it off and testing it that way. When I crank the engine it will try to go but wont stay running. I wanted to try cranking it to see if it gets voltage but don't have enough hands. Any other ideas or tests I can do on my own?
  7. Case of road rage like me? Steering wheel looks good man. I just bought a fairly decent used one and will begin working on it if I can ever finish up all the other loose ends I have going.
  8. Personally I like no chin spoiler. But it does add a look of mean.
  9. Thank you Midlife. The light was off with it in the green and came on when I plugged it in to the other. So thank you all. I do not have an AC car so green is just unused then. :) Thank you all. After wiring I'm still having issues. Think it has to do with fuel delivery though, not wiring.
  10. No thank you! That's exactly what I wanted to hear. That is the best sounding exhaust I've heard in a long long time. Congrats too on finishing up! Unfortunately $1000+ dollars is a little high for me right now. I'm looking at buying a used setup for $100, minus headers. Bent up and everything. One can dream though.
  11. Machm1970, Thank you for your reply. That would make life easier. The wire does appear to have a bit of red left close to the plug. I will see if the light is on, and if not, switch it and see if it comes on. Can anyone confirm this?
  12. Back again. I have two plugs that look the same to me and do not know what they go to. Maybe you guys can help. Engine is a 302. Pretty much stock with the exception of powersteering added.C4 auto trans. One is definitely green, and I have that hooked up to the transmission. I'm pretty sure it goes to the neutral safety switch. The other wire also appears very faded green, but I am suspecting it may have been blue originally. In my electrical manual both tell me to see other document which I do not have... Any idea what these wires go to?
  13. What exhaust do you have? That sounds amazing! I was looking through the thread and couldn't find anything about it.
  14. Thanks for the information. I'll have to see if I can get it separate and if it will integrate into the current setup.
  15. What power steering setup is that? It looks really clean and slim. I might want one! Also congrats on the progress. Getting my dash wiring back together is giving me nightmares! But I'm close and I'll keep plugging along.
  16. That's awesome your son is into that stuff. I am restoring my first car and going much slower than you two. I hope that having the car finished when I have kids will give them an appreciation for old cars and maybe give me the chance to do it again for my kids first car as you are. G ood work! Keep it up. Should be a nice ride once you are done.
  17. EWW. This person must have failed kindergarten. Square things don't fit in round holes; those lights look awful! And is that an antenna on the bumper??? What is that?
  18. I can find the old forums just by using the search function but none of the pictures/attachments are there.
  19. Max power provided you with everything you need in that link. Lots of good books. Welcome to the forum. I am a lot like you. I just finished college in May and bought myself a mustang in 2012. I am slowly fixing it up and almost have it running. Learning about cars in invaluable (until hover craft catch on) and the knowledge your brother has will be the best book you can have. I'm the most mechanically inclined in my family and really the only one who likes working on cars so learning has been through doing as well as books. Rust sucks! Come to AZ where there are plenty of "rust free" mustangs! Good luck!
  20. My car has an automatic transmission (unfortunately) and there were two green wires that the plug fit into on the harness. The starter does engage though, and I did not suspect electrical either. I will check the starter solenoid later but I believe it is correct. Thanks for the advice on the truck. You are probably right on on that one, don't know why I didn't think of that.
  21. It is the factory harness. Refurbished at Midlife. I'll get out my meter and do some checking.
  22. Ah the coil good call. Ok I'll try that test when I get home. Thanks for the help by the way. Any one else know what might be the issue? Could I have hooked something up in the harness wrong causing this? Just asking because there was only 1 wire I was unsure of. It went somewhere back to the transmission and 2 plugs on the harness it fit into. The truck is an 84 F150. Has the inline 6 4-speed granny in it. Single cab long bed and 4x4. I like it so far. Good for camping and should be nice for getting through snow this winter.
  23. That could be. I haven't really noticed that but that could be. I usually stop trying to start after it fires. I did try holding it once though and it still tried to crank over but never did.
