1. Do not....lift the engine to replace the oil pan, it’d be dangerous and a real pain in the butt! We did a gasket on my buddies '67 and I did an oil pump on my old coupe in high school, both power steering cars.

    Unbolt the idler arm from the car, pop off the x member and there is more than adequate room under the car! I’d clean everything out real good and pop it back on. A day’s work be a lot easier the lifting the motor out.

  2. I moved the Grande into the new garage a few weeks ago but hadn't really got a chance to get her cleaned up from sitting for over a year under a cover outside in the humid Texas weather.

    She started right up and ran .....bad. I think the car just needs to be tuned up! Then we'll see. I'm not real good with tuning so I get lost on getting the final details right. Well anyway here's a pic......or 2

  4. No, not necessairly, looks like you’re pretty up to speed on part #’s but some aren’t so let me explain and then you decide.

    Depending on what the first 4 numbers are it goes like this….

    For ’69 the part number would be C9ZZ-13A726-A

    C9= is 1969

    Z = Mustang

    Z = Ford Parts/Services.

    13A726= is your part number for the particular application, in your case an ash tray lamp.

    A =is the suffix or edition to the part you have.

    Moral of the story, you can get a 1969 ash tray light, C9ZZ-13A726-A, and a 1974, D74Y-13A726-A ash tray light….same no. You really should compare the parts. Will it work, probably but like I said, you need to compare parts.

    EDIT:

    I would assume this is the part your refering to....

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-68-FORD-ASHTRAY-LIGHT-galaxie-fairlane-mustang_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem120350418098QQitemZ120350418098QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

    it does look the same, plug matches anyway.

  5. Hi Trintys

    You mentioned "Pulsing lights" as one of the issues you dealt with !

    Well I have this poblem with my system, I rebuilt the alternator myself and installed a new mechanical regulator and all my lights and probably everything else pulses as if it is the regulator coming on and off.

    Any hints on where to start looking.

    Thanks

    John

    Sure, do you have a volt meter? When this is happening, check the output of the alternator and the output to the rest of the effected circuits. Start at the beginning and move to end user. Alternator, regulator, fuse box, individual plug for the component. It will help you isolate the issue. Most likely the culprit is the regulator being mechanical but it could possibly be the alternator, you need to troubleshoot and isolate. Most likely not end user causing the problem (i.e. bulb, radio).

  6. Aright let’s get down to business....

    Let’s gather some info here. For a lot of us old timers this stuff is mostly old news, the new guys to this sport this is critical to ending some frustration!

    We need to post the 20 top problems for 69-70’s, stuff you can find on any given day on any given forum. Once we get the suggestions, we'll do an in-depth post with all the fixes.

    A lot of you don’t know me….but when I post information I try to make it informative with lots of pictures and plenty of different views on the subject to give you an educated view and confidence to tackle the project yourself.

    Here are mine.....in no particular order of precedence.

    1. Windows falling out of the track

    2. Pulsing lights

    3. Sloppy steering

    4. Lights spontaneously going out

    5. Loud/squeaky suspension

    6. Sloppy automatic shifter

    7. Misaligned hood

    8. Misaligned doors

    9. Instrument light/gauge problems

    10. Faulty turn signals

    11. Charging problems

    12. Cracked shock towers

    13. Headline installed incorrectly

    I need more! Let’s get suggestions! Please base your suggestion on personal experience, not heresy.

    Good luck!

    Wow......you guys do love me!:huh:

    I've been around, I delete alot of spam mostly. Wanna see my current project? hint hint........it's not a car :blink:

    I just got done building a new house in Texas. We moved in a week ago! It took a lot of time and self control to get that project done. As soon as all the moving boxes and BS are out of the damn garage, the mustang has a new home! The car is sitting under the expensive ass California car cover I bought a few years ago……at my Mom’s place.

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    I’ll be honest, since I got out of the navy in July 07, I’ve been extremely busy trying to make life “normal†for the family. I haven’t done anything except wash the car, put on a new set of plug wires and plan, plan, plan for a few future endeavors!

    The car is basically how I left it when I went on my last deployment in the Navy. I had just dropped the fresh 351w, mass-flo, new fuel system, mew master cylinder yadda yadda into the car, got it running drove it a couple times and parked it. It still has bugs from all the work, idea like crap and I need to reroute the hard line off of the master cylinder away from the headers. And really do all the final stuff like tie back the wiring, get the car tuned and just basically finish off the little stuff. I will, trust me! As soon as my wife gets her stuff out of MY garage so I can dig out the tools…this will be real soon…I can’t even see my welder for Pete’s sake!

    So am I guilty of ignoring you guys….YES…..am I guilty of not being the uber-diligent multi forum all around cool in general guy I was the day this forum hit the streets….yes……will I make a mends…..only time will tell!!

    Here are a few pix.........
