Opinions Needed -- Engine/Drivetrain Mods in 69 Mach
shaun071 replied to Jefhuf's topic in 1969-70 Technical Forum
If you don't do a lot of long highway trips stick with the toploader. I had 3.25 gears with a c4 which ran at 2800rpm at 65mph. Fine for a couple of hours on the highway but on a 600 mile trip I did a couple of times a year it was a bit hard on the ears and the wallet! If I were you I'd do the gears/trutrac and efi first then see how you like it. -
Opinions Needed -- Engine/Drivetrain Mods in 69 Mach
shaun071 replied to Jefhuf's topic in 1969-70 Technical Forum
Lower diff gears will make the engine more responsive and the trutrac will let you put the power to the ground better than the single wheeler. That's where I would start. The gears you mentioned are a good choice. OD trans and efi are mods I'm planning for my coupe. I have a similar spec 351c and have an AOD, 9" rear with trutrac and 3.50 gears -
Maybe the Holley hydra mat would work with the modded sender/pump. It may be difficult to set up some kind of anti surge tray around the pick up that would fit through the sender hole.

I haven't been able to do anything for the last few months. Bulk overtime at work and the kids are keeping me busy. I've got the next two weeks off work so I hope to get the trunk area finished and the trans out so I can finish off the under floor area.

Coming together nicely mate. You've got some good progress there.

Merry Christmas to all!!

The aero motive tank will bolt in to a 69-70 but the filler tube will need to be modified and they are only 16 gallon capacity

That's all a fair call Bob. Are you able to set up a direct debit through your bank so we could pay straight into your account? My wife works for a bank here so I can ask her for ways to pay with no cost to you. It's a good suggestion for the Aussies to ship through your friend if the live in Brisbane but for those outside driving distance it will most likely be cheaper to ship direct from you. Aussie freight companies are pretty expensive for domestic freight. -
Are you getting a click from the headlight switch circuit breaker then the lights go out? Mine was doing that after I installed halogen high beams and I had wired the lights backwards. Reversed the wiring and it worked fine.

Great work Bob!! I think we owe you a case of beer for setting this up!! -
69 fuel sender units are available with an inbuilt return fitting or you could modify yours to run the return line. I've used electric pumps on other cars in carbureted systems and they were noisy but you got used to it. That was 15+ years ago so who knows what they are like now.

That's an interesting question. Like you I need to get an intake for my 351c. I would think it would be the same as you would use if you're engine was carbureted. If your cam etc required a single plane use a single plane with the Fitech. It's essentially an electronic carburettor so you'd assume the intake requirements would be the same. Maybe someone with more experience could chime in on this one. I was going to use a dual plane as that suits my engine spec and driving style. -
I've heard of the hydra mat and saw the u tube videos but don't know anyone who's used it. Looks impressive though. Some late model Fords have a fuel pump module with an anti surge baffle built in. It's plumbed for pressure, return and vent lines so I'll be modding a new tank to fit one of those. http://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/281805453597

You can get the nut plate from cj pony parts as well as the hangers etc. the plate slides in through the shockers upper mount access hole. my coupe has a twin system but had dodgy looking hangers just welded to the floor. I got all the bits from cj's but haven't fitted it up yet. http://www.cjponyparts.com/dual-exhaust-hanger-mount-pair-1965-1970/p/EXHB/ Here's a link to the nut plates

Yeah you can count me in. Money is ready to go. The only complication with me is freight from your place to me in Australia. When Summit shipped my AAW wiring loom it was US$80 so I'm assuming it would be a similar size and weight. Bob, great work in setting this up -

You just beat me to it Shep!! looks interesting and would be interesting to see how much it was here in Aus. I'm guessing with mark up and exchange rate not much change from 2k. -

Just putting it out there but we may not hear much until the new year with it being holiday season. The people who can make the decision on a further discount may already be on Christmas leave. That might not be a bad thing as it gives stangnet time to get more people on board for the group buy. -

The freight "should" be under $100au. I've had similar sized boxes shipped here for $70-80 au. -

I'm definitely in, the minister for finance and total war has approved the purchase. The 10% discount will cover freight. Anything more is a bonus! -
I had the same fan set up with a 55amp alternator and it worked fine. Definitely run the fans through relays, preferably 1 relay per fan

I didn't know they were doing a 22gal tank. I'd be interested but the freight would put it out of reach. I was looking at getting a new stock tank and fitting the fuel pump module from a late model Falcon. It is a common mod here in Australia for efi. -

Sounds like good deal so far. Checked the exchange rate and it's doable for me. Good work mate! -

Thanks. I bought the cable corrector with the idea I would be running some type of Holley carb. I will also be using the lokar cable so it's good news.
