  1. I'll swing by that site right now and get to digging as well. Thanks a ton :)
  2. Last time I drove mine, it was cross country (Utah - Kentucky - Utah) and it averaged around 15-18 MPG. I was a bit surprised by that. Though it did break down 200 miles from home on the return trip.... :(
  3. Long time since I posted an update on this. Due to really cold weather this winter, I haven't been able to do anything with my mustang until now. I lifted it on jackstands and took a look at the transmission, but honestly wasn't sure what I was looking for in regards to an inspection plate and whatnot. When it comes to mechanical knowledge, I'm pretty low grade at this point. Any advice, or even better: photo or video, on what I should search for to further diagnose my problem would be fantastic. FrozenMonkey: I would always love a professional, or at least someone who knows what they are doing, show me the ropes if your friends are interested. That being said, if any of you are in the SLC area and want to help a rather new guy out, I would greatly appreciate that as well.
  4. Print Dad: Thanks for all that info. I didn't know the flywheel was replaced by the FLEX plate. I had seen references to both, but with my limited knowledge I didn't realize how they related to each other. I checked the fluids before my trip and they were all good, though to be fair I haven't rechecked it since the issue arrived. Currently, when I start the vehicle, you can hear a really bad rattling from the transmission, almost as though something is lose in it. Currently I'm out of the state and just realized while I was out that this was a good place to get more info. EDIT: Oh yeah, as for the motor size, it is a 351W. The previous owner replaced the original 289 with this motor, so it is not the original. FrozenMonkey: I just might take you up on that offer once I get in town and look it over myself. Thanks for the offer on that :)
  5. So I recently drove my 1969 Mustang from Salt Lake City, UT to Paducah, KY and back. Well, most of the way back. About 200 miles out of SLC, the engine lost all power and died, so I had it towed back. While out seeing what I could find out, a guy who lives in my apartment complex came by and he seemed to know quite a bit about engines and such (he has a classic car of his own). Sadly he was moving, but that day he listened to it once I fired it up and said it sounded like I shredded the flywheel. Here soon, I will be taking a look at that to verify, but I can't find any video's or such online about how to do this, especially with it being an automatic (not sure how the torque converter comes into play). Does anyone here have advice, or know of a source for information I might have overlooked? Any information will be useful. Thanks.
  6. They Pakrat, I don't plan on taking it apart at all. I'm very dedicated when it comes to projects like this, so until I am ready to complete a job I don't start one (IE: I won't take it apart unless it is goign right back together). Latoracing, not sure what shops are around here. Haven't looked up much for restoration shops. I've only lived here a year, and had the car a couple of weeks :)
  7. I'm loving it the more I drive it. Building a list of stuff I need to fix already. Parking break is busted. Oil Pressure gauge doesn't work. Speedo sticks under 20. Dashboard top needs to be replaced. Slight rust in the trunkbed. And the best part is I'm looking forward to fixing all that, not sickened at the thought. :)
  8. So I recently picked up my 69 Mustang and am learning all about maintaining and eventually fixing/restoring parts of it. It has a 351Windsor motor, but I do not know the last time it had any oil changes or the like. I figure a good thing to do to get my hands dirty with working on it is an oil change this weekend, especially since next weekend I'm driving it to a car show about 60 miles away. I've always taken my cars to oil change specialist shops for this, but it's time to learn for myself. With these older cars I have seen that certain oils are needed or not needed, and certain items like zinc need to be around. What I haven't found is any information source that is pretty authoritative on it. Thus I turn to you wonderful people :) Is there anything I should know major, or any good source of info I can dig into? You guys rock.
  9. Do you have the Steering Wheel out of the 69? If so what price are you looking at? Also on the 69, how much for the front seats? PM me. Thanks.
  10. Thanks :) I'm excited to get my hands dirty on it. This weekend I want to give a basic oil change service to it. I don't know when it's last oil change was so figure even if it turns out to be unneeded I will at least know exactly when it was done and with what. That being said, on these older engines, is there any special oil I should look at using? My other vehicles I have always had done at oil centers.
  11. I have nothing to add to this, however FrozenMonkey- I LOVE YOUR PLATE! :D
  12. Yeah, is a small time dealer. The owner is friends with a guy who does classic restores and this was his daily driver. Spotted it on the lot and picked it up. Cleaning it up this weekend and can get more pics. I'll post more pics here this weekend. :)
  13. I'm pretty new to the classic car stuff, just always wanted to learn to fix them up so and when I found this I figured why not. I know the original owner does restorations for a living but this was his daily driver, so it runs great, but needs some work on the inside. He put a new 351Windsor motor in not too long ago, and a custom exhaust, headers, and a couple other small things. It's automatic, but I plan on swapping it to a manual in a few years. Got some good power to it as well. :) Obviously I'll be on here a lot asking questions and learning how to do different things. :)
  14. Needs work, but I got it as a project car. I'll have better pics once I give it a bath. Driving it to the Cache Valley Classic car show next weekend.
