  1. I used to own a '99 Trans Am with a T56. The gearing in that car was 2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50 with a 3.42 final gearing. Car dyno'd at 328 hp and 346 tq to the wheels. The car would plain get up and move until you had to touch 5th where it would start falling on its face. With more power it would have pulled to the moon. I found the gearing to be excellent for freeway driving. Could set cruise at 80 mph and clip along at 2k rpm and never have to downshift to pass or climb hills and got over 28 mpg on long trips. Where are you getting your T56 from? A custom built one or grabbing one from an F-Body/Corvette? Standard one straight out of an F-Body will hold your power goals all day long and if you pair it up with at least 3.50 rear gear I think you'd be happy with how the gears match up. Most F-body guys like to bump up to 3.90 - 4.10 gear and don't complain about the bit of raise of rpm at freeway speed. I think thats a bit too high though for a car that is going to stretch its legs and not just drive down the 1320. Just my opinion though. Good luck doing the swap. I'm totally jealous. Thing I miss most about the Trans Am was rowing those gears. And A/C in this desert heat.
  2. Can't say for sure without knowing specifics like were requested above but I'd wager it's not getting fuel. Is this only on cold starts or does it do this every time you try to start it?
  3. Without being there to really look at it I wouldn't be able to offer any more advice. Doesn't seem like anyone else here has this setup or has any insight so I'd post up on VMF about it or do a search.
  4. This bracket is supposed to work with kickdown cables but I wouldn't know, as I don't have one. I don't know what the stock setup looked like either, when I bought the car it had this carb on it with a really ghetto pedal and throttle cable setup on it. When I bought a stock pedal and throttle cable I had to ditch the weird setup that was on it and get this Spetre bracket to make it work.
  5. Indeed it was and its worked wonders. The only problem I haven't figured out is the 1600 rpm idle on cold starts. Goes away after 10 seconds of idle then a mash on the gas but cold idle shouldn't be that high. I assume it is from not using the "correct" throttle bracketry but I'm not going to shell out all the money for one when all I have heard is negative experiences about them.
  6. Heres how I set up my 1406: I didn't use the Edelbrock install kit as there wasn't one with the carb. I just went to Autozone and bought a universal Spetre throttle bracket.
  7. I've never had to store a car over the winter since I live in a desert that hardly ever gets snow but heres an article that gives pretty much every tip I've ever heard about storing a car. http://blog.caranddriver.com/how-to-store-a-car-for-the-winter/
  8. Been wanting to do a Trac Lock and 3.50 for mine as well but with the FMX, its just not worth it until I can also afford to do a 5 speed conversion. As others have suggested, I'd wait until you can get a transmission with an OD or not do a gear change at all.
  9. Ford power steering units love to whine. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it gets really loud.
  10. Today's Low Price $439.85 WHAAAAT!? I refuse to believe that two pieces of stamped steel could cost that much. What are they making these out of? Unobtanium wrapped in carbon fiber laced with space diamond dust? The two surface rusted stamped steel pieces that I just yesterday cleaned up and installed with the new leafs sure didn't look to be worth this much. Is originality important to you? There are some companies out there that sell them for tons less but they aren't the original design. http://www.mustangdepot.com/onlinecatalog/suspension/tcp-spring-plate.htm Good luck on the search. I still can't believe the prices they are charging for such a piece. Incredible.
  11. Are you referring to soemthing like this?
  12. Edelbrock has a kickdown adapter for their carbs as well. You just have to buy it separate. Or can use one of the various aftermarket ones based on what throttle cable you use or what you want it to look like. Lokar, Summit, Spectre are brands off the top of my head that make throttle cable brackets that accept kickdown linkage.
