  1. Hey Mike,

Hope all is well with you. Will you let me know how you installed a switch into the cigarette lighter please? I plan to use it for the coil to distributor wire on my oem points ignition to keep bad guys from starting the car. I've disassemble the center console lighter on the front side of the glove box. Any advice is appreciated.

    Bob

      Hi Bob...

I used the cigarette lighter trick in the 1991 GM Dually we used to haul our old Pro Mod s-10 with...

Basically, I used an inexpensive normally open Radio Shack momentary switch ( Catalog #: 2751547 )

drilled and mounted into the bottom of the cigarette lighter housing...   When the lighter was pushed in, it would close the switch.  The switch would then activate a standard Cube Type automotive relay, which would then allow the Starter Wire (Purple wire on GM) to engage the starter when commanded...

On a Ford, the relay could be used to allow the power to the Coil to be cut or activated, or the wire from the points to the coil, or the power for an electric fuel pump...   Many different ways to disable the vehicle depending on how it is configured...

In my current project, since I am using EFI, I will be using an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) circuit to disable the ECU unless the RFID dongle is within range....
