  1. Does anyone know where I can get the best deal on a set of magnum 500? The best deal I have ran across is from mustangs unlimited. They have a set of 15x7/15x8 the kit includes wheels, center caps, and chrome lug nuts for $681 with free shipping. I am also wanting to find the best gripping street tire (i know that none of them really grip that great) but at the moment I am debating on BFG radials T/A's and Mickey Thompson S/T radials. I know that a set of drag radials would grip the best but I am most likely going to be putting some miles on this car and possibly driving in wet conditions so they are out of the picture. Any ideas? or is there anyone running these tires that can give me some advice? Thanks, Drew
  2. Nice! Ours came from Unique Motorcars and we are running a Centeroiler 427FE with a toploader. Thanks guys!
  3. I'm with the other guys, I think that a 351w with a toploader and some aftermarket goodies would be a great idea. That's what I am going with in my car simply because I don't want to be so nose heavy and according to my Dad the car drives a ton better with the lighter engine and its not so hard to get traction. I am also a huge FE fan and if they were not so heavy and hard to work on that is what would be in my 69. The 427 in our Cobra replica makes tons of usable power and torque and is very fun to drive but that car is pretty much centered around the engine (weight distribution is almost 50/50 with the front of the engine being completely behind the front wheels). Hope this is helpful, Drew
  4. I finished up some more painting yesterday and tinkered with my engine some.
  5. Thanks! I'm pretty much keeping the original look on the outside although I went from the original jade to black and I'm doing gold mach 1 stripes. The interior is also going to be the stock mach 1 with wood grain and center console. Going with vintage air system so maybe I can keep the black cool. The car originally came with a 351w and fmx. I'm going with a toploader 4 speed and 351w with eagle forged 4340 bottom end, RHS aluminum heads, comp cam XE284, edelbrock performer RPM air gap intake, and still haven't decided on a carb. Its got a 9in rear with 3.70 traction lock. Since we've got the hard work done I'm hoping to get it finished before Crusin the Coast in Biloxi,MS this year. This past year we went, my dad took the cobra and I took a 70 RS Camaro. We had tons of fun. I've never seen so may old cars at one time in my life!
  6. Hey guy I thought I would share with you my car and progress with it since I just joined the forum. The car has been in the family since 1980 when my Dad bought it out of a junk yard with a tree going up through the hood for $65 (because the guy he bought it from was a Chevy said and said that's all the rear end was worth). After that he bought a 1970 Mustang with a 302 and C4 and put it in the car and drove it for a while. Then he decided he needed a little more speed when he found a wrecked 69 mach 1 with a 390 and toploader 4 speed. After that the car had a 428 cobra jet in it and then a 427 center oiler and then a 351w. After about 20 years and 2 wrecks (and some crappy bondo patch jobs) we decided to restore it and do it right. We started tearing the car down in the mid 90s for restoration. After the tear down the car sat for a while. My dad got a good deal on a 427 Cobra replica (well it was just a frame and body and some suspension) and we just happened to have an original 427 to go in it. We managed to finish it in about 14 months and spent some good father son time doing it. So now where back to work on the 69. Were done with all of the body/paint work that we helped a very good friend with and were half way done with building my 351w to go in the car and were still working on it but showing signs of progress finially! I will post pics of the Cobra and some current ones of the Mach 1 when I figure it out.
  7. thanks for all the info! no my car does not have a rear sway bar even though I think one would be a good idea. I also wish I would have seen that other thread earlier. I believe I am going to go with 15x7 with 235/60/15 in the front and 15x8 with 255/60/15 in the rear. I would go bigger in the rear I would go bigger in the rear but i just replaced the whole right rear quarter panel from the top of the roof down! Inner outer fender and all! Took a ton of time and i just got it painted 2 weeks ago so i think it would hurt my feelings a little to much to roll that lip of the rear fender under. Thanks again for all the input guys!
  8. Hey guys, i'm new to this site and I was wondering if some of you could answer a question I have been debating about. I've got a 69 factory mach 1 car with a set of factory replacement springs from mustangs unlimited and I am wanting to run the largest tire possible on the rear with out any fender rolling issues or cutting. I am thinking of going with 15x8 magnum 500s (which I believe has a 4.5in backspace) on the rear and maybe a bfg 255/60/15. Do any of you guys know if i can go any wider? Thanks, Drew
