  1. Thanks for all the input. 69Resto- Good idea however the car has been sand blasted and is currently in primer. Raven- Let's just say it blonged to Heff and he posed a lot of 1960's naked chicks on it for his magazine. Cobra and Pale- I agree to a certain extent however... SCode- It looks like one of my parts cars will be New Lime, I am going to mix a pint and try to keep an open mind. We do intend to drive and enjoy this car. I suspect in the end I will be into it for 20k so I don't want to be stuck with an ugly turd, it will be done right including the tilt away column I just spent a small fortune on. I hope the color works, I think I'll post a photo of the parts car after in gets sprayed for future use of others. Thanks Everyone
  2. I just installed a 9 inch rear end on my convertible, I was told it came out of a Cougar. I went to NAPA to get shoes and drums an they baffled me with the 3 or 4 size options. Since I really don't have any idea what this rear end came out and it did not come with drums I am not sure what to buy. I do know it has the larger axle bearing and appears to be meant for a 31 spline however it is a 28 spline. I read this old post from "daley driver" however I also read on another site that said 67-70 Mustang V8 cars came with 10x1 3/4. "The drum surface is slightly wider than the shoe. The drum size is named by the shoe width. On mustangs, 9"rears have 10" X 2", [351 cid/boss 302 and up cid ]8" rears have 10' X 1 3/4", [302/289 models and I-6 250 cid w/5 lug axle rears] Yours sounds like 10" x 1 3/4", have your supplier help you , you are the one paying for them. If they cant, go somewhere else."
  3. Is this it? I hope the link works. http://www.bradbarnett.net/mustangs/timeline/69-70/69/600.jpg
  4. Rare indeed, one of the ubiquitous green tones of the era. My convertible, according to Marti, is one of 27 with the trim codes New Lime/Deluxe Lime Gold (or something like that). I'd like to paint it the original color again however I'd sure like to see one first. With the input I have received so far I think I will pursue this as an option. I would like to hear other opinions as well.
  5. Has anyone seen this color in person? Is it as awful as I think it might be? I have searched on line and found nothing. Old Ditzler color books show it as something other than a disgusting lime color. I have seen the book in person and this is a very good representation. Thanks http://www.mustangreview.com/1969mustang.htm
  6. Cool, I can go to work on it now, thanks for the response.
  7. Today I am installing a cougar rear end in my project 69 convertible. I believe the holes in the leaf spring "Perches" on the rear end are larger diameter than the Mustang. Do I have to do anything to compensate for this? I read old posts and there were discussions about a rubber spacer that goes in between the leaf and rear end. I don't recall my Mach 1 having anything between them. Thanks
  8. If you are in the Pacific Northwest I can help you out with a nice 69 roof for a hell of a lot cheaper than what you talk about in you original post. I plan on cutting the car up any way, take the whole thing and save me some work. It's a V8 car with phenominal front end.
  9. When you say "made" to work are you referring to the linkage?
  10. I think you did very well as long as the rust isn't too bad. I assume since it's a Mach clone it has the deluxe interior? Hopefully it has a 9 inch rear end and power brakes already.
  11. Will I have any issues if I install a 68 clutch pedal in a 69? I am trying to restore this as correct as possible and if I am way off I will go find the correct pedal. Not sure if it matters but this car will have power brakes.
  12. Guys- Are these interchangable? Can you use backing plates from an 8" rear end on a 9"? Thanks
  13. First, I joined this forum a couple days ago and I am very glad I did so. You guys are great. I have a problem that has been plaguing me since 1982 when I bought my Mach 1. When you jack up the front end and take the load off the suspension the sway bar will hit the harmonic balancer with enough pressure to stop the engine. This car did have a few "Upgrades" that led me to beleive someone had access to a variety of model year Mustangs. 1970 Boss Shaker, 1967 GT gas cap (customized to fit), etc.. I am wondering if they had put on a different year sway bar that might have caused this. They did lower the front A Arms, it appears to have been done properly. Thoughts?
  14. When I was in high school all the gauges in my Mach went wild, turned out it was a bad ground. It was a long time ago but I believe all the gauges pegged instead of going dead. I am curious to hear what the problem was.
  15. Is there some type of lube I should use to free this up a bit? I cleaned the whole unit but the diverter is difficult to move with the controls. I beleive the resistance is the rubber on the flapper dragging on the fiberglass housing.
  16. RacerX My plan is to go ahead and make the modifications, I just hope the angle of the column base and the firewall are close. Thanks
  17. Perhaps I should rephrase the question. Can you use a 70 power brake pedal and support on a 69? If so what modifications would be required. Thanks
  18. I am working on a 69 conv. I am trying to mount my 69 column to a 70 power brake support. It appears I am going to have to cut the pedal support and fabricate a way to add the hook looking "bracket" that is used to attach the 3rd bolt on the column to the 69 pedal support. Has anyone done this? Am I missing something? Thanks
