  1. Where are you located? Are these coupes, verts, or fastbacks?
  2. i like that one. I'd buy one or two. The benefit of the 'clear car', as mentioned earlier is that a different color shirt = different color car. So why buy just one?
  3. Wow. Great story! Nice lookin car too!
  4. Heh, sad is it sounds - no I have not measured them myself. Good point. I'll do that, lol.
  5. I'm going to be running TFS 190 cc heads on my 347. I know that's not exactly comparable to a 408 build, but if I were in your shoes, I'd stick with what you already have. To me, it's not worth the hassle and extra cash involved in selling yours, buying 205's etc. Then again, it depends on your goals of the car. If making maximum HP is your goal, then that's a different story. I'm having a custom cam grind to match the rest of my 'engine recipe', including these heads and the valvetrain in them will match as well. If your cam was spec'd with the 185's in mind, I'd definitely stay with them.
  6. Thanks for the responses thus far guys! I'm only lowering the car 1" from stock height and I'll be using new springs all the way around (620's in front are already installed). I don't think this will lower the car to the point of tucking the tire in the wheel well (unless car is loaded down or cornering very hard). By the looks of things after rolling the lips (I didn't take any after-pics), the quarter would have to drop quite a bit below the top of the tire before it would definitely rub. That's assuming that the rear isn't moving to one side or the other though, which is probably a poor assumption to make. Until the car is assembled with the extra several hundred pounds of drivetrain, fuel system, interior, etc., it's difficult to determine what its stance will be. I just got off the phone with the company that I bought the wheels/tires from and they're noting my file that I will not know for sure if I have a fitment issue for a few months. I've got this in writing (email) as well. I feel a bit better knowing I'm not making a huge financial gamble here. I really like these wheels, but they're not offered in many sizes/offsets.
  7. New wheels and tires: 245/45/17 up front on 17x8" wheels with 4.5" BS - Don't foresee any issues here. Rears: 275/40/17 on 17x9.5" wheels with 5.5" BS - Looks like it may rub. The pics were taken prior to rolling the rear quarter lips in, but even after that it looks like it may rub. I can't really tell because the car is just a rolling chassis right now and without the weight of the drivetrain, interior, etc., it's hard to tell just how much clearance I'll have as the car is sitting so high. The plan is to run mid-eye 4.5 leafs in the rear, but they're not on the car yet. I'm on the fence of whether or not I'll have rubbing issues with these rear tires after the car is fully assembled. I have almost an inch of clearance on the inside. The only concern is the outside rubbing on the quarter. Thoughts?
  8. HA! Nice tatt, by the way!
  9. Lol. If that's the biggest mistake you make this week, you'll be doing just fine.
  10. If you're still stuck after the above, I recommend removing the master and bench bleeding it. Should only take a few minutes. Also, it's possible that the new master is bad (not common, but I've seen it happen), or the push rod isn't the correct length for it.
  11. proportions are too far off for my taste. car looks too short and tall in comparison to the original. just looks bulky to me.
  12. Have you seen these charcoal renderings done by a member here? http://www.1969stang.com/mustang/forum/showthread.php?t=10972
  13. I did something similar with my stang. I'm in VA, but previous owner was in NC. I had bills of sale from owner to owner, but no title. I filed for 'abandoned title' through the DMV and the process took around a month and a half. My understanding is that they list the vehicle for x amount of days, and if it is not claimed or listed as stolen, then it's mine. I received a clean and clear title afterwards.
  14. I know that I'd prefer ABS in any car my kids are driving. Then again, my stang isn't what they will be driving as teenagers. Nor will it be my daily driver.
  15. To clarify, I was in no way suggesting that Strokedwindsor doesn't need a brake upgrade. He definitely does, considering the power the vehicle has. I just meant that without abs, the biggest brakes won't necessarily be any better than a smaller brake package, assuming that the smaller package locks em up easily. In summary: definitely look into a nice brake upgrade, but the biggest/most expensive kit may not mean the best braking performance for the money. Please let us know what you decide to do and how it works out for you. I'm also undecided on the brake package I'll be using for my 347 (400hp..ish)
  16. Was it being used to hold the throttle return spring maybe? If so, it's definitely not original.
  17. I used the 3M undercoat in a spray can as well. At the auto parts store they carry 3M and DuPont brands. I tried both. The 3M is a few bucks more per can, but it is MUCH BETTER. Well worth the extra expense. All four wheel wells are coated in the 3M undercoating on mine. I used an average of one full can per well. Around 2-3 coats were achieved per can.
  18. Agreed. There comes a point that bigger breaks on our cars is only adding a bling factor, not increasing braking performance. Up to that point however, adequate stopping ability is essential for safety purposes.
  19. I'm with danno. It's likely an electrical issue, such as the coil. As the temps rise, a small break in an electrical connection expands and loses connectivity. When it cools back off, the connection is re-established as it contracts again.
  20. i'm becoming a fan of aircraft stripper. doesn't leave dust EVERYWHERE, and is available at local auto parts stores.
  21. I used a high lift jack to spread them, with wood between the jack ends and the towers. I've got a nice picture of it, but for some reason the reply tools aren't allowing me to select anything, so I can't add it to the reply.
  22. it looks as if the rectangular section that has rounded sides would allow for a wiring harness clip, or hose clip to slide onto it to keep things stationary, but I can't say that I recognize that bracket.
  23. While I agree with RangerDoc's statement, I do want to point out that cruising gears increases the top speed capabilities of the car. My first car, as a teenager, was a 69 coupe. It had something like 273's in the rear. It would bury the 120 speedo and still have plenty left in it. I'd never do that on the highway now, but as a bullet-proof teenager....... it happened. Just sayin.
