  1. May have missed this already but, are you sure you have hydraulic lifters? Is it possible that you have solid ones instead? Did the mechanics understand that they are hydraulic? If they were adjusted using a feeler gauge (as you would a solid setup) then you'll have a ton of valvetrain noise. I'm not able to view the video at this time so I may be way off, but from the comments of others, I'm under the impression that there's a considerable amount of ticking. Also, you mentioned that carbs were switched. Was this before or after the "rich" condition presented itself? I saw your other thread regarding the snow (that's how I knew this one existed) and I know this thread isn't the main priority right now, but wanted to offer thoughts before I forgot :-)
  2. As far as I know, my 69 is a factory 4 speed car. The gauge cluster that I received with the car upon purchase does not have a tach. Did all manual transmission mustangs in 69 come with tachometers or was it an option?
  3. Thanks for the link. I was able to get it out the other day, but I had one heck of a time doing it. The entire seam was continuously welded together. I'll not only be replacing the outer wheel house, but also fixing the inner wheel house lip that I mangled a bit:)
  4. Holy @#$^@!! Seperating the halves of a wheelhouse is a real PITA.... They welded them together VERY WELL!
  5. I second that statement:tongue_smilie:
  6. I prefer the 69 front and rear over the 70. I'm probably just partial to them as a 69 coupe was my first car. I've seen a 69 with a 70 front end before and it just didn't sit right with me. The previous owner of my current coupe removed the quarter panel scoops and filled the areas in with filler. I know some people prefer that look because the scoops are non functional. I'm putting the scoops back on the car. Don't get me wrong, my project is no way an attempt at a factory correct restoration, but there are a few things that I want to be right such as the seats and scoops. Just personal preference.
  7. Any amount of progress is STILL progress. Keep it up!
  8. I'm glad you replied with that info Racer. I was about to have a heart attack thinking I put on the wrong quarter skin:blink: If I could find a full quarter for the driver side, it would make life soooo much easier, but all I've been able to find are quarter skins for a 69 coupe. I got them from Mustangs Unlimited and was pleased with the fitment of the passenger side. I haven't gotten far enough on the driver's side to say one way or another. It's going to be much more difficult to line up correctly since the lower corner of the door and the rocker are already somewhat banged up. I'm currently waiting on the outer wheelhouse to arrive. After that, it's showtime:biggrin: I'm hoping it won't be too bad.
  9. This car has been absolutely butchered by a previous owner. The left rear quarter was cut off of another car along with half of the outer wheelhouse and the entire thing was riveted to the coupe. Check out the gallery pics using the link in my sig if you're interrested. The guy I bought it from already did the radiator support, torque boxes and floorpans. So far I've got the right rear quarter skin and lower trunk extension on and new seat platforms. I've removed the left quarter area and am working to try and get the car structurally sound again. I'm not a body repair expert by any means, but I'm a good mechanic. We'll see how it goes. Good Times!! :helpsmilie:
  10. The new platforms showed up yesterday and it seems pretty self explainatory. I'm only about 5'6", so moving them back probably isn't a good idea for me ;) Thanks guys!
  11. I have a set of the red non-hydraulic ones pictured below (14% bought after viewing this item). I'd much rather have the hydraulic ones, but that's because I'm lazy and don't feel like using the jack much. The casters on mine are pretty tough to move too. I can move a car by myself, but not very easily. Just my $.02, if you can get the hydraulic ones, go for it.
  12. hehe thanks. When looking at the new floorpans, I see four holes on each side of the car. Are these holes for the seat platforms? They're about 1 1/4 in diameter.
  13. Thanks for your help Grabber!! I tried to reply to your PM, but apparently your PM quota has been exceeded. You must be a popular guy. ;-)
  14. The floorpans were replaced in the coupe by the previous owner, but he tossed the old seat platforms. I ordered two seat platforms from CJP and I'm trying to determine where they should be installed. The new platforms haven't been delivered yet, but when looking at the floor pans, I'm not sure if it will be obvious where they should be once i see the new parts, or if I'll need to do some measurements. Any advice?
  15. I can't seem to find them anywhere. Seems like everyone sells the chrome ornament, but not the scoop that the ornament mounts to. Any suggestions?
  16. Thanks for the responses guys. I'm going to look into the hush mat and lizard skin options. I'm not in a big rush, I'm just trying to get my plans together.
  17. How much should be used? One site i saw said only 10% of the area needs to be covered for road noise to be reduced. That seems a little low, but I obviously don't know what I'm talking about.
  18. I've seen a few threads mentioning sound deadening and insulating materials. I'm trying to decide what to do with the bare floorpans and trunk in my coupe. Since the care is stripped down to a bare rolling chassis, I'm working to get the sheetmetal repaired and protected before I move on to anything else (currently I'm replacing both quarter skins). I plan to prime and paint the floor before the carpet goes in and I definitely want to apply some sort of sound deadening material (not sure what kind). Should I be concerned with insulating material as well? What products have you been successful with and what do you recommend I stay away from? I've spent some time searching other threads, but still find myself unsure about what I should do as there appear to be many different opinions. I appreciate any opinions anyone can provide. Thanks in advance.
  19. A few more pics. I brought the car home with 5 large totes full of pieces and one trashbag with all of the wiring harnesses in it (none are labeled). I know I'm missing seats, gas tank and a hood scoop but the rest is currently a mystery. A friend of mine saw the pics and said it reminded him of the Johnny Cash song "One piece at a time." I look forward to learning and contributing to this site.
  20. Hey guys, I just stumbled upon this site tonight. I'm very ecstatic that there's a forum site dedicated to the 69/70 stangs. I recently purchased my second 69. My first car was a 69 grande and I had it for 6 years before I sold it. The one I just purchased is stripped down and needs a lot of work, but it will be fun and I'm looking forward to it. I'll try to attach some pics. I ordered quarter panel skins and lower trunk extensions this past weekend and hope to be installing them soon. These pics were taken by the seller. I'll be taking plenty of pics during the "reconstruction".
