Nothing pertinent to add.  Small world it is sometimes.  My Mom's family is from Oconee County, been to Seneca many times, Walhalla and West Union.  Anderson jockey lot ain't what it used to be 25 years ago, neither is Pickens Flea market. Also went to the Mustang shows in Ashville at the Biltmore Estate years ago.

When I was a kid, my folks use to drive to Seneca and shop at Roses and Big Lot stores all the time. And the jockey lot we went to at least once or twice a year, but your correct it's nothing what it used to be for many years ago. I always enjoyed the trips to SC when I was a kid, when I got old enough to get my driver's license I started driving down into Toccoa, Ga and up through Westminster, Seneca, Clemson, Anderson and Greenville, SC. To this day I still take a long drive through those same areas mention above a couple times a year just to get away and reset mentally.

We have a car show in Anderson that you may already be familiar with. It is in June the weekend of Fathers Day. you should try to make it sometime. It is usually a pretty big turn out. There's not but one sometimes two 69 Mach 1 there, would be nice to have yours there

I would gladly accept your invite if I'm able to finish up the Stang before then, I want to have my transmission rebuilt and completely redo my interior that's about the two major things left to do on my car. I'm hoping to finish the car completely by the end of this year so I can drive it. Can you give me some details on the car show in June, please?

I'm running the same tire on the rear, but with a 10" wheel that has a 5.5" backspace.  The rear is factory at the moment, but the lip is rolled.  I figured I'd just show for comparison purposes.  My last set of wheels were 15x8" Centerlines, and I also ran a 275/60/15 tire on them lowered with a 1" block. You can see that the drag radials are also a little taller than the old Goodyears I had on the Centerlines.

Yes, the 275 is fairly taller but it looks good imho. I didn't use lowering blocks for the rear I went with these leaf springs Scott Drake C5ZZ-5560-4ME Scott Drake Lowering Leaf Springs | Summit Racing with Bilstein shocks front and rear from Street or Track. I can get 2 fingers between the fender and tire on the rear and my fenders are not rolled.

Nice car Weekend Cruiser, noticed you are in western NC. I am in SC and I have a Mustang enthusiast thats a friend of mine in Murphy NC. Wounding how close you are to him.

Thanks for the compliment, sir. I'm currently living in Asheville, NC, but I'm originally from Franklin, NC. So, I'm familiar with Murphy. When they closed down Books A Million years ago here in Asheville I used to drive down to Anderson, SC to Books A Million just to buy Hot Rod magazines. Then they quit publishing about 18 different car magazines and I quit going to Anderson. They were a car show / fund raiser for a cop that had been injured a few weeks ago in Seneca that I was wanting to go to, but I was working that weekend so I wasn't able to make it.

I am new to this forum so please forgive me.  I have researched this question on the internet and still unsure of the answer.

I just purchased a '69 Mach 1 428 R code CJ...numbers matching car for a lot of $$ and unwilling to roll the fenders, etc.

The car has come with stock steel wheels, , what I believe to be period correct tires, which are worth a good buck.

With that said. I'd like to replace these wheels with Magnum 500's...15X7 in front and 15x8 in the rear.  I'd like to know, without making any further modifications to the car. what is the largest size tire I can go with in the front and rear.  Now...I have a '16 Shelby GT 350 with 305s in the rear...I know I cannot come close to that size but would like a 275 in the rear if possible?

I would appreciate any and all feedback.

    TY

I'm running a 15x8 Magnum wheel with 4.5" backspace. My tire is a Mickey Thompson ET Street radial tire size 275/60/15. And the rear has been lowered a inch from factory height. No modifications have been done to my car to make the rear tires to fit. Below is a picture of my car, hope this helps.

I use 3M glue per their instructions. You put it on to both headliner and the window frame then wait for it to dry until it is not tacky, then join the pieces while pulling tight. This way the glue joins the pieces immediately and not require clips etc for it to dry. You have to be careful with placement of the headliner as you can’t reposition and it is difficult to disjoin the parts. Also, when you install the metal trim back, it pulls the headliner a little more.

Join some scrap pieces using above method and you will see that it grabs immediately and you do not need spring clips.

Ok, that sounds pretty simple and easier than I was expecting. I've been dreading doing this for some time now, but I think I should be able to tackle this on my own without fear of screwing up. Thank you, for your help!

on 69-70 coupe and fastback, front glass (which does not use weatherstrip) does not need to come out for headliner replacement; but it will make it a little easier to install the headliner with front glass removed. But rear glass and weather strip should come out to do it right. The front glass has to come out on older cars that use a weatherstrip to install the windshield.

So if I don't remove the front glass, what is the best way to keep the headliner pulled tight until the glue dries? With the back glass removed I could see using several spring type clamps to keep the headliner tight until the glue dries that would work. Thanks for your advice aslanefe!

  8. Thank you sir! I will need to look at my car a little closer to see if it has been done like yours. I read somewhere on the internet that the front and rear glass had to come out, I might have interpreted that wrong. Maybe it makes it easier if the glass is out, anyway I've been dreading doing the headliner because of thinking the glass had to be removed. It took me a minute to figure out your picture. Thanks again!

    Update:

Plans changed a little.  I got bold and took off all the stainless and aluminum trim.  I learned that my headliner does not go under the windshield, apparently that is factory.

Leaning towards getting the car back without the windshield and rear window, maybe taking them out before it goes to shop.

Shop said they wanted the weather stripping to align the doors.  I've read it is best to align first then add weather stripping.  Trunk may be a different matter though.

I've had the cowl vent off and learned about parts I did not know existed like foam blocks and cowl to fender bushings.

Question: Can I polish my quarter window stainless with it on the glass?  I plan to take the stainless of the door glass to polish it and replace the rubber.

Trying to get subframe connectors in before the engine comes out this weekend.  To the body shop next week.

TexasEd are you saying that the front and rear glass does not have to come out in order to install the headliner? I'm going to be installing a new headliner in my car sometime this year and I was dreading to have someone come out just to remove the glass from the car.

  10. I went with ACP as well and had ordered them through NPD. When I got the front parking lights from NPD I had only 1 that was ACP and the other was another brand, even though both left and right was listed as ACP. I bought a set together instead of having to buy separately that was ACP on Ebay and sent the ones I bought from NPD back, the ACP are very close to the originals imo.

  11. I know this is an old thread, and I apologize in advance. But I'm currently installing the front side bumper brackets and I am not for sure witch way the nut goes into the valance. It looks like the nut would be installed from the back side of the valance with the fingers facing / gripping on the outside of valance. I have a picture of the nuts below that I have. Any help would be appreciated!

  12. Thanks Wycked69, I was told today by Perogie Enterprises that sell used mustang parts to buy donor parts like you have mention, instead of replacing the whole quarter panel. The guy from Perogie said it wouldn't be a hard task for a body shop to do. Perogie also gave me a number for Mustang Masters from Florida to call for the used parts that I need, Perogie didn't have any used panels with scoops. So far I haven't had any luck reaching Mustang Masters by phone. Thanks again!

  13. I'm looking at a 69 fastback to buy. The quarter panels have been replaced with 1970 quarter panels. The owner was going to make it into a Boss 302 mustang, but didn't finish the car. My question is, can the 69 be converted back with the side scoops easily without replacing the whole quarter panel. I haven't had any luck finding new side scoop parts to use, will they have to be come from a used 69 fastback mustang? Any help would be deeply appreciated.
