  1. Both great ideas. Kris the inner pillar mouldings on this car will be black as well. That might work. Raven: I had initially contemplated doing the moulding in a silver or light argent colour. There are a few pits in the brackets but for the most part i should be able to polish most of them out if i go that route. I guess if i go the black or silver route i can always have that piece powdercoated as we get a lot of it done through my son's business. Thanks guys, ...John
  2. Just seeing what you guys have done to these two pieces for refinishing. The first is the moulding that goes above the windshield on the inside. The rearview mirror attaches to it and it connects at both to the sunvisor brackets. It was rusty when i removed it..it cleans up like stainless but isn't. Not sure if i should paint it and with what. Second photo is the sunvisor brackets ..these appear to be potmetal or aluminum. Just looking for ideas. thanks..John
  3. I got it up to @ 5 degrees Dave and up to now i have lived with that. Minor tremble between 60-70 and then it disappears...still annoying though. I did purchase the low profile covers for mine but haven't installed them yet as it entails removing the trans and mounting it in a mill to mill the surfaces down to the required gradual incline. That will let the tailshaft go up further with the covers not hitting on the passenger side which was the case (pardon the pun) with my interference issue. My plan is to do that at the same time im building a stroker 428 for it. MD now sells a streamlined case as i mentioned and after all the issues i had i think everyone should purchase those trannys with the mod already done or go to that new TKO that theyre now selling. I guess finally that company got the message that these transmissions are too invasive for the Mustang tunnels. Best regards...John
  4. When i did the TKO 600 swap in my 69 I had to shim up the back of the trans to get the driveline angle acceptable. I called MD and basically they said to put a piece of cardboard over the top of the trans ...jack the trans up til it hit the rib on the floor..then lower it just enough to remove the cardboard and that would be acceptable clearance. Mine did not sit " perfect in the opening" as the opening is not symmetrical. It appeared to sit over towards the passenger side but when you look at it the rib on the floor on the left sweeps away further than the passenger side which is more vertical. That was done purposely at the factory to allow more room for shifter rods etc. Made sense to me. Technically If ordered from MD you should order the TKO with the 'low profile' covers..that way you can get the trans up further in the tunnel without hitting anything. And the covers hitting on the right side was my problem. One other note..not sure what shifter you got with that trans but i ordered the shifter with a 1" offset to the left and rear and that put the shifter in the center of the opening to match the console. Food for thought. Regards..John
  5. Mike65...according to the list on rock auto they are correct for the car?? John
  6. yep..it is. I like the fact that he explained the fact that whatever is cut off the spring will be double at the wheel..makes sense ...forgot about that. I guess In the interim i'll put the seats in and fluid..other than that the car is pretty much complete and i know those few additions won't bring these coils down any. Then i'll calculate and start trimming. Interesting though in his video he talks about a 620 coil for the early mustangs being in the 13" range.. I'm assuming he's talking about freeheight. These springs have a 16.31" free height. I might drop him a line and see what he thinks and maybe what he can supply. Or maybe i'll cut as is in his video. ..John Edit: I just sent him an email.
  7. Good day Mach1 driver: there are no shocks in the car yet. Haven't purchased them. Yes the bottom coil is up against the tab and the top fully seated in the insulator. Thanks
  8. I agree wholeheartedly with you Mach1driver. Upper and lower control arms..strut rod bushings..spring perches..idler arm..upper isolators have been replaced..100% new. All moog except spring perches which are SD. I also agree that the car has to be 100% assembled ( i watched the Eaton video) and the fact that that the car has to be driven 500 miles but...looking at the pics i think you'll agree that it won't settle over 3 inches. Maybe im wrong.?? John
  9. I backed it off after i installed the engine and trans. Car is 95% assembled. Only thing left is seats carpet and the convertible top ..the framework is installed. That certainly won't bring it down 3 inches. John
  10. Agree with jmlay. I went through 2 of the new AMK 'concours' solenoids in a 4 month period before I replaced them with a Motorcraft. No problems since. Car would start with the AMK and wouldn't release starter unless i ran out and rapped on the solenoid with my knuckles ( got tire of that real quick). :) ..John
  11. Dreamcar: I read over the reviews and the results varied. It would appear that the springs maybe did drop the car ballpark 1" as a few customers stated...certainly not the drop i'm looking for to get this car down. The general consensus of those springs you referred to is that they are not a soft ride. The ride of this car doesn't have to be 'soft' but certainly not harsh. Mach1driver: I like #2 in the procedure you listed. "Push front end down approx.1 inch and release slowly".. you can't push this car down 1/4 inch..lol. Thanks for the suggestions though...John

First set if put in were Moog 8534: .670 diameter/Free height 14.69/ install height 11.00/ load 1578 with a spring rate of 428 lbs/in. The car wouldn't move up or down as it was on axle stands..lol. Then i switched them out for a pair of 8234: .620 diameter/ Free height 16.31/ install height 10.5/ load 1668/ with a spring rate of 283 lbs/in. There is no difference. There are no shocks in this car yet. I realize it will settle somewhat after driving but there's over 3 inches above the tire! Tires are 245/45ZR17. Ive included a pic of the side profile of the tire as well as a pic of the undercarriage showing the steep angle of the lower control arms. I recall having to change the springs twice on my 69 fastback to get the front right but this is over the top. From the floor to the fender lip i have 30 3/4" ! I know forum members have run into this before but this seems kind of excessive? thanks..John Note: I've loosened the entire front end to eliminate the possibility of the suspension being in 'bind'. No luck.
  13. What mufflers are those? Exhaust certainly looks awesome. Great job. John
  14. This clutch setup was only mocked up and not used as we had to replace the 10 spline disc with a 23 spline. This is the 10 spline / 1.063 11 inch. Long style. $404 at Summit. $300US shipped anywhere in the lower US states and Canada.. Any questions please feel free to PM me..thanks...John
  15. Hello Kris. I tried a 1"x1" foam piece used to seal window A/C units . even though it compressed quite a bit and was soft it still didn't let the studs from the moulding drop down far enough to get the nuts on. So i had a roll of 1" x .125 foam sitting around . Closed cell. Seems to have worked like a charm and looks like yours in your photos. I checked the assembly manual and found the part number for those two rubber bumpers that mount on the windshield pillar and yes, you were right, they are the same part number as the small rubber bumpers that attach to the cowl where the hood sits. All i had to do was to slice them a tad at an angle with a sharp exacto knife to match the angle of the moulding that they were supporting. The factory ford ones were crushed into such compressed state so i'm thinking that the aftermarket ones are a tad tougher and therefore had to be trimmed. Appreciate all the help..good luck with your project and i'll be following your build! Best regards..John
  16. Got the correct pulley on it based on the drive pulley? Also i also have had issues with using power steering fluid in them vs type F trans fluid. Never had an issue with type F and that's all that we used in them in the past. FWIW...John
  17. Thanks a bunch Kris. Pics are a big help. I purchased a roll of Air conditioning Unit installation foam from HD. 1"x1" and it compresses quite well so looking at your pics i'll glue it to the roof portion rather than to the moulding as it fits that area well. I pre tested it and it compresses to the thickness of your gasket. Do you have a few pics of the 'skeleton' of your convertible top? The two small bows are identical but one has the angle brackets with a pin..not sure if it goes 1st or 2nd. Thanks again...John
  18. Kris. Thanks. Do you think that seal is original? If so they weren't too fussy how they put it on..lol. I found some goofy stuff on this 70 vert too while disassembling. Unfortunately i didn't take pics of that area. Is that a rubber grommet on the pillar?? No grommet on this one. Thank you..John And i assume the studs on the top moulding goes down through that foam gasket. The foam gasket i found is 1"x1" but certainly will compress down to what u have there
  19. Swap flashers to see if you received a dud unit...John
  20. Just ready to install the wide stainless moulding on top of the windshield pillar. New windshield is in. The assembly manual shows a 1"x1"x 53" foam seal under that wide stainless moulding. Anyone have a pic of exactly how it goes? the manual certainly isn't clear as the foam seal does not look square ...thanks..John
  21. That looks awesome! Great work. My 69 is acapulco as well. Love the colour. ..John
  22. Looking mighty good Kris...keep posting the pics! ..John
  23. Vic..on the 70 convert i'm finishing up those window guides above are stamped RH and LH on the flat base. ....John I also had a few questions for you but it says you can't receive emails?
  24. Purchased a 15L to do carbs and small parts..works awesome. Now looking for one to accommodate a cylinder head. Anybody purchase one of these? Thanks..John
  25. Need the passenger side * eyebrow * moulding only. Bought repos but they were no where close to fitting. Thanks..John
