  1. Hello All, First thanks to everyone who read and responded - I appreciate it. Mike65 -great info and thanks so much for the links Rsanter - thanks - -I am planning on checking things very soon - -I will check what you say Thanks Midlife - -when the car was in the body shop - he checked the front end and thought things were good. I plan to check it out myself - I can check most of it OK I think - -ball joints, idler, etc 1969_Mach1 - I do have the shop manuals - I will read them tonight -Thanks - - aslanefe - -I just thew out a few messages - -I think my in-box was full - -could you try again please Thanks I appreciate all the help. In the OLD days I would be out in the garage working on the car right now. Not sure where my mojo is headed - I just retired from teaching after 31 years and it has me feeling a bit blue and i also seem to lack any confidence in my wrenching skills lately although I have done a LOT Thanks all - - I will have answers soon Sam
  2. Hello All, Once again I turn to the Pro's here for advice on the old girl. She is a 70 Mach - -351C with 3 speed stick - -drums all around and manual steering I have too much play in the steering wheel - - I plan to check it out in a few days and I am thinking of tackling the front end overhaul myself. Lower control ams, ball joints, tie rod ends and idler arm etc etc. But I am pretty certain a lot of the play is from the steering box. I am collecting/ordering parts for the front end - - I am also going to grease the box and tighten the sector nut 1/2 turn. But I am thinking I need a new box. So my questions are 1. - Do I have the box rebuilt - any ideas on who does a good job? 2. - If I buy a box, where will I get a stock factory box or something close to it. I am searching and see things like short sector shaft - flaming river 1/16 boxes - -but I would like just a factory box or something comparable This is the car we have owned 40 years and she is in pretty good shape. Thanks as always - -Print Dad - Sam
  3. Hello Mach 1 Driver, As always I appreciate your time and thoughts. Yes - I am a Mac user and I did teach printing/ which turned into desktop publishing - so that is what I am still a Mac user. I have been researching this and it would be so simple if I could just get old drivers from the printer manufacturer. They are of NO help at all. I have seen models of 70 Mach's in 3D format - I forget what type of file they are but they are 3D files that you send to the printer. That is where the major issue is. I don't have an application that can talk to the printer and send over the info. You are so right - -Macs were/are great for books, brochures etc etc. My students get Adobe certifications in several Adobe programs. Well I ramble on here - -I thank you for taking the time to answer a way off topic As a closing - we have only had the Mach out about 3 times this year and have not attended one car show or meet - - not sure what the issue is - but I think I am just nervous about this whole retirement issue. Thanks - -be well - -keep it straight and work safe Sam Print Dad
  4. Hello All Well this sure is WAY off the norm of is forum but I am hoping someone can help me get started in 3-D printing. I know this post may not get much attention but I figure at least ask. I just retired about 2 weeks ago from teaching pinting at my local trade school. My son and daughter-in-law bought me a starter 3D printer. It is a xyz Davinci Mini . I have run into many issues but here are a few of the major ones 1. - The software requires Mac OS 10.8 - -I am running 10.75- - My I-mac is old and I don't think it will run on a new OS. I contacted XYZ - for older version of software but they are of NO help. 2. - I have been trying to learn how to use his printer - - it seems i need software to talk to the machine and a special file TIS or something - I forget. Of course I would love to print a 70 Mach 1 - - I do understand printing but this is new to me - -perhaps one of the reasons I knew it was time to retire and let the students learn from a new teacher that has updated skills So that is where I am - -a nice new entry printer but I can't do anything with it. I can set up the machine and load the filament - -but that is all I have e=been able to do. I was hoping someone her may recall being a newbie to 3-D printing and could offer some pretty simple advice As a side note - little nervous about retirement - been working 50 years last 31 teaching. I did realize the trade is speeding past me even though I tried my best to keep up with changes - just too much Thanks and I appreciate any and all comments Sam - Print Dad
  5. Hello Caseyrhe, Thanks for sharing with us. I graduated high school in 1969 and loved the cars then as I still do. This was a cool trip back in time -thanks On a side note - went to Boston last night and attended a great Moody Blues concert. It was a blast - Thanks again - -SAm print dad
  6. Hello Thin Lizzy, Great looking ride - -you are way too modest. I hope you have a great car season and lots of fun Nice ride- - keep it straight Print Dad
  7. Hello JIm. These must be hard times for you in many many ways. I can't imagine your pain and suffering I wish I had some "great" words of wisdom to offer but I can say only two things 1. - There are many people that feel for your situation 2. - That that does not kill us makes us stronger It may be impossible to think about a resurrection right now but you and your car deserve to be united an whole I am certain we all send our deepest regrets and hope that in time you will find will and strength to make your vehicles better than ever Sorry for the hardship Print Dad - -Sam

    Carb Float?

Hello Caseyrhe, Thanks for the funny link - - sometimes we all need a good laugh Thanks - -very cool - -very funny Sam
  9. Hello Dave, Yes you bring up a lot of thoughts on the car. I would like to address a few so others may understand my situation 1. - I have worked on this car for about 40 years and have done everything except paint. I love to work on other people' s cars and we do a lot of work helping others. That includes the Chevie and Dodge guys LOL.. No seriously, our friends are mainly car guys that work on their cars and we wrench with each other. Gotta see the 61 Studebaker Lark Convertible that the owner and I dropped a 350 with a 700r4 - we had a lot of issues and had to pull the motor and tarni 3 time due to train issues- -the owner of that car just turned 80 LOL This was a great job and we had a LOAD of fun to go along with the scrapes and bruises. So yeah I like to help work on cars and helping friends 2. - When we bought the car it was for us to cruise and enjoy and hang with our car friend buddies. It was nothing special but we like the car and it has been a blast to own and drive. It could never be a trailer queen and that is not what we wanted - -we wanted a SHelby but couldn't find one in our price ut this Mach is a pretty cool looking car. 3. - We kept the car for a long time and figured after our son finished college and got married it was time to do a little on the car for us. It was the painter that convinced us to paint it back to the original grabber green. Before the paint job the car was black and looked pretty good but a lot of dings and tiny dents so we painted the car and I think he did a great job. WE cotinued to go to more and more shows and meets When we go to the meets, we immediately leave the car and go talk to people about their rides. It is not like we arrive and detail the car and stay right there- -nope - not our style - -we like to walk around see old friends and meet new ones. I must admit - I thought the car would get a lot of attention and perhaps win some trophies. It was then that I thought - wow this will be cool - win a few trophies for all the work and efforts. Gotta admit - although our car looks good - there are always better ones around. Then I got to thinking - -the main reason we have the car is enjoy it and have some fun. When we go the shows - -we know a LOT of people and all the guys like my wife and treat her with great respect. We are in our 60's and when we pull in - -lots of guys yell - -"here come the kids" LOL So yeah - i will continue to help others and work on cars - and go to shows but I realize that winning is NOT important. We have a LOT of fun at the shows and that is what this hobby is about Now I am at the point where I would like to change a few things and make the car even better but not sure what I will do For example - -we still listen to the 8 tracks but i know my wife would love an MP3 player in the car. I have 4 (8 track players) and have quite a few tapes. Just not certain what I want to do. When I look at the car - it brings me back to the 70's when loads of people were driving muscle cars So now -the body is tea real good - -the interior very good but could use a few things then engine compartment could use some work - just not sure if I will add more chrome or go back to stock. z At first I was thinking of making it look more stock for the judges - -but now I realize that the judges don't matter - it is what my wife and I like So to sum up this novel - - Yes the car is in good shape- - it runs well and is a lot of fun to drive although I must admit when we cruise - hardly ever get a thumbs up or anything. It is just another car around here but it is OUR car and it is what we like. So yeah - -"what do I want to do with this car" is a great question and I am trying to figure out where I will head with the car in the next 40 years. Thanks- -but really when I started this thread I was a little down - -the people here lifted me up and reminded me that trophies mean nothing - it is the friendships and talking with others that counts Be well - -and thanks - -I just gotta figure out the next phase for the car LOL SAm 2. -
  10. Hello Machspeed, Thanks for the kind words. Here is another area where I am a bit torn. I have thought of going with the Magums = but the keystones on it are the ones that came with the car when we bought it. In some ways I am trying to keep the feel and look of what we purchased. I certainly am thinking of going with the magnums and possibly going back to stock valve covers instead of the tall Morroso on it now. This is something I think I must decide this winter and will weigh any and all ideas and suggestions On the one hand - I like the looks of the Keystones as they are different and on the other hand I know it should have the Magnums. To be honest it is cold here and I have not done much to the car since the season ended But again - -Thanks for the suggestion I think i will post a picture of the motor so people can offer ideas on that as well At this point - I am thinking the car is in pretty good shape and we love it but I am not certain where we are headed in phase 2 - -the next forty years LOL Thanks all for taking the time to read this post that originally started as a Whah Whah baby - -but I got the juices running and in either case I still LOVE the car and my wife is always happy when we are cruising LOl Thanks again Sam
  11. Hello All, Yes I would like to offer a big Merry Christmas to all the members here. This is a great time of year for many but o be honest this is also a tough time for some - so much rushing and hectic days leading up to Christmas. Oh yeah and there is the "thrill " of shopping - -Thanks to CJ Pony - much of my shopping was done online On a serious note - for me this isa little sad time - -this is my first Christmas without my Dad. I sure miss him - -he was a class act and a great dad. So while most celebrate the day for one reason or another - just remember that this is a day of memories - -both good and bad - -but they are things we will think about in years to come Be well to all - Merry Christmas - and happy holidays Print Dad
  12. Hello all, Thanks so much for the info. I probably should have mentioned that I have had this car for about 40 years and have had he dash out about 25 times for various reasons. I will be able to pull the cluster OK butI just don't want to keep pulling things apart. I would like to do this one final time and have things working. I did see gauges at MU and they look pretty close but I had not looked too closely. I will investigate a iittle more especially Perogie Enterprises. Thanks so much for the heads up. I will keep you all informed as to my progress and direction Thanks again - -Sam
  13. Hello All, Well it is the end of the season here and I would like to do a few fixes to the car. One of the large issues I am having is with the gauges. The fuel gauge reads full when only 3/4 full, the oil pressure has stopped working I have not investigated the oil unit - -I have in the the past - grounded the sender wire and swapped the sender. I continue to have some issues. So I am thinking it is time to replace most of the gauge section. I was thinking of replacing the following - 1. - Circuit Board 2. - IVR 3. - Gauges I would like to do this only once - I don't want to take the dash apart again and again Oh the car is a 70 mach - not tach So here are my many questions 1. - who makes the best original style gauges 2. - Same with the circuit board and IVR 3. - Guages? 2. - Should I try to find NOS on e-bay ? I would like this to work - on just one try So now that I have asked - I should also ask Am I going at this in the right way? I have a small multi meter but stink at electronics and electrical I can pull the dash and cluster - but what do I do then? Well I appreciate all the advice on this and all the other items I have had in the past Be well - -Thanks again Sam Print Dad 1. -
  14. Happy Veterans Day to all the great men and women who have helped insure our freedoms and our way of life Their sacrifices have allowed us to do what we do Always remember those that have fallen, those that carry the wounds of war on their bodies and in their minds Raise a glass and say a prayer for all our veterans Thanks for your service Sam
  15. Hello Bart, Welcome to the forum - -you will find a lot of great helpers here I am glad you got to acquire your childhood dream car. The car looks amazing and yes the gabber colors are pretty cool in my opinion Have had our green Mach 40 years and I hope you keep your longer Best of Luck and congrats Print Dad (SAm)
  16. Hello John, I was wondering if there was any chance you could post a picture of the spring in question. I think I understand where to look for the upper mounting but not sure where it attaches to the Z-bar. I was only under the car a short while and didn't look around when I installed my spring between the fork and the z-bar. I know I ordered a spring - but thought they had sent me the wrong one A picture would sure help me and likely others Thanks - Sam (Print dad)
  17. Hello all Thanks for all the tips and advice. I plan to check the circuit as best I can and then talk to wife and see if she thinks this is one of those projects I should send to PRO's. I like the challenge of a job but afraid I may screw things up worse LOL Thanks again - it does sound as though I could do this if i took my time One last question - -why does it seem as though people always remove the wheel - -I was thinking it may help to work on it as it is attached to the shaft. MAybe just easier to work with it out of the car Thanks again - -Sam
  18. Hello all, Well there was some great news yesterday - - we went to a local car show yesterday - it was about 2 minute drive from our house. It was a cold damp day but my wife wanted to go. we were lucky enough to win -"People's Choice". So we got a trophy for this year. I must admit I was happy and somewhat surprised - - - - BUT The real thrill was showing our car to former students of mine. I got to show them what I enjoy when I am not at work. Of course it was very special to show the car to local politicians and old friends. I met a guy I had not seen in 50 years - -we were once pretty good friends - -he had a cool Nova. My wife is a lunch mother and there were sooooooo many young children there. They would run over to her and hug her and she would let them sit in the car while their parents took pictures. So I am happy we won something - -BUT what I will remember about the show was a number of things 1. - Seeing old friends 2. - Seeing some cool different cars 3. - chatting with local politicians and police LOL 4. - Watching the kids hug my wife and telling their parents how they loved her 5. - Talking to club members of a Mustang club we joined a few months ago So yes - -it is kinda nice to win - -but the memories have nothing to do with the trophy So many people asked - -"what do they call that color" where did you get it painted? Is it original The only down note on the whole day is the horn switch seems to be stuck (rim Blow) but I will deal with this My friends - thanks for all the support and advice- - Yeah trophies are kinda cool but the real thrill is so much more than just a piece of metal. I plan to work on the car this winter and next year - -I may not even have the car judged It only causes stress - - I think to drive the car and talk to people are so much more important Thanks- from this OLD foolish guy I got it - I understand Print Dad - -Sam
  19. Hello All, Well today was a great day for us and the Mach. We finally won a trophy - got people's choice and that was great - - however - -an issue arose and i am looking for a LOT of advice and suggestions. I noticed a horn wire was off the horn when I went to hook-up the battery - -I connected the battery and put the horn wire on the horn, Yup - the horn was blowing I must give a little background on this "issue". Oh yeah the car is a 70 Mach with a rim blow wheel. we have had the car long time The horn would only work if I squeezed on a few spots on the steering wheel That has been the case for years and years but I could sound the horn when I wanted So i am assuming the switch has now crapped out. Not sure if that is the cause of the issue and I am terrible at electrical. So now a long list of questions and looking for advice 1. - Does this sound as though the switch is the issue? any advice on what I could try before replacing the switch 2. - Who makes the best switch for the rim blow? and who sells them Such as MU or CJ etc etc 3. - I watched a video on replacing the switch and seems a bit tricky. I would LOVe to hear from people that have swapped the switch 4. - If people think this is too hard of a job - -could you recommend a place that would do the swap and perhaps refurbish the wheel. I know this is a LOT of questions and I have figured that this day would come but i have been nervous to swap the switch for fear that I will mess up the wheel I sure appreciate any and all tips advice and thougths I got the fever again and want to work on the old girl Thanks - -Sam (print Dad)
  20. Hello Prayers, I gotta say you are a classy act - - In my opinion they could make a little adjustment to the picture. I mean to offer only some thoughts on making the banner even more pleasing - -I teach Graphics/printing and know a little about Photoshop If they could remove a little of the center of the picture then it would bring your car in some - -then they could move the 3 cars on he left over a tiny bit I think they could get your car fully in the banner without changing the look I would be very happy to offer help - -but I would need a higher resolution picture to work with. I honestly can get you car into the banner - i know if it were my car. I would be proud to see the whole car in the banner. To the person that did the work - -I say WELL DONE _ _nice job. I would love to offer a little help if the person is short on time This is in no way a reflection of the neat looking banner - -I couldn't come up with the idea but now that I see it - -I think I could get your car into the screen Sam
  21. Hey Prayers, Maybe a slight swap like this could be done I bet they could do this. If not at least you can print out this sample Nice ride and I do like the banner - -I see what you are saying about coming in from the right SAm
  22. bswor Nice work - - the guy did a great job on the banner. Now why didn't I think of something like that? LOL To the members whose cars appear in the banner - -congrats To those that did not make it this time - -no matter I saw a LOT of very very cool cars. Some of you people have amazing cars and they are worthy of high praise Thanks again for a cool new banner Sam
  23. Hello John, I am pretty certain that on our 70 Mustangs there are only 2 springs The first is installed as you have done between the fork and the Z bar. I am sure there is a spring under the dash at the pedal The spring you refer to - -the small one going from the Z-bar to the firewall is NOT used on our year car. I know there is not one on our Mach and no place to attach it at the firewall I think this was used on earlier years. You will be fine just the way you are set up Yes a little free play is needed so that the throwout bearing is not rubbing on the pressure plate. Not sure what the exact measurement is. Hope this helps a little Print Dad - Sam
  24. Hello Rwcstang, I too am sorry to hear about your problems. I have another possible approach to this situation I wold take the car to the shop you want and ask them if they will negotiate with the insurance company. Often times the body shops have history with the adjusters. Up here in Massachusetts - the adjusters treat car owners like we are dummies Not sure if it will help but try talking to your shop I really hope this works out Print Dad
  25. Hello Ashlee mach1, Super job - - way to go. When we take our car to any meet or show - -I always let young people sit in the car and take pictures. The young are the future of this hobby. Many times parents are surprised that we would let their children sit in the car - -but it is always my hope that one day they will be the older generation allowing younger people to sit in their car. I could not agree more - -the young people area the future - -I hope others will consider doing this as well Congrats on your kindness. One day - one of these kids will say - I remember this old guy that let me sit in his car" LOL I had never thought of letting them start the car - -but I will consider that in the future Thanks again - -be well - -work safe and enjoy the ride
