  1. My Lexus has them there and it sounds good, but the Lexus has several other speakers. I will have to give this more thought. Right now the focus is to get the car on the road! For the sound system I know I do not want a tape deck, CD player, or any other dated junk. I would rather something that just acts as a controller for the digital input, or failing that, simple FM radio.
  2. Congrats. It looks like good progress and fine attention to detail. All the little bits required are enough to drive you nuts! My car, the twin of yours, will be on the streets this summer as well.
  3. I edge ever closer to actually driving my car. I still don't have a music system installed. I was thinking I could remould the A pillar covers to mount small speakers in the same way other people have put extra gauges there. Has anyone done this before?
  4. I've noted that we can't contact members via PM. I wonder if we could/should set up a matching FB group so we can contact each other easier.
  5. Just curious... why did you stop? Would love to hear about this project.
  6. And you can pour a thousand dollar bottle of scotch over a beater without increasing the value one drop...
  7. He is working on his '69 Mach I. I've seen enough to know his car is rotted to the "replace everything" point. So many of them are these days. It would be cheaper in the long run if he bought a Dynacorn body. He is going to end up buying all the parts and building one anyways. But, when the budget is tight, people make the major mistake of trying to save money. I've decided to butt out and mind my own business. In looking at options for him, I noted the cars online on the salvage sites. I suppose they are just fishing for people to look at pics of wrecked cars. I also noted the videos on youTube of the guy wandering through the mustang Ranch (uninvited and un-escorted mind you!) and decided there are still plenty of restore-able cars out there. Buyers just have to be patient and stop paying top dollar for wrecked junk just because it has an R in the VIN.
  8. I have a buddy looking for a floor, firewall, quarters, etc, for a car that requires the skill and resources of some of our more senior members here. This buddy lacks those sort of resources and I get frustrated seeing him make all the mistakes that amount to throwing his money away. I was thinking he could maybe get the metal to save his rotted out junker from a theft recovery car advertised on those salvage cars sites. Those sites look too good to be true, so I know there is a scam or major catch. Has anyone here ever explored deeper and tried to buy one of these cars? http://repairablecars-forsale.com/
  9. your PM box was not accepting msgs. If they were posted on eBay then we likely saw them. I'm sorry I missed out on the Teak, but I am tapped out on this project anyways.
  10. I bought new (white) panels but discovered later they do not come populated. I still need the cups and chrome and all that stuff that goes with them. The rest of the plastic in the interior is being painted. I ordered the "right paint" and I am still waiting to see how well it matches. When I bought this car it was a bare shell. The little bits are killing me.
  11. Ash, I am sure you are aware of Hexavalent Chromium hazards, but for anyone looking at your work and thinking they might try this at home, please be aware of the precautions to be taken when working with stainless. I know we all want our kids to inherit these nice cars, but they should all have to wait as long as possible...
  12. I would be interested to see the results if anyone ever tried to do a coupe to fastback conversion without changing everything. Retaining the coupe door glass and roll down quarter windows would be interesting to see..
  13. '69 Coupe window on the bottom vs Fastback window on the top. Don't buy the wrong window...
  14. The last few orders from CJ Pony have left me feeling a little less than satisfied for a few reasons. The first reason stems from the "free shipping" policy. Nothing is free. I am not an idiot and either are any of you. We all know that free shipping means they have added the shipping cost into the purchase price. So when a Canadian customer like myself is then told that we don't get free shipping, it really means that we will have to pay the built in shipping cost, and the actual shipping cost. We pay twice. Because I have to pay twice, I have to save up and order my parts in batches. When I do this, CJ Pony gives me reward points which almost always expire before I can save up for another batch of parts. So, I loose out on another discount. Added to that "you're a Canadian" tax, there is the problem with the back ordered items. Several times now my order has been delayed for extended periods because one small item on the list is on back order. Rather than send the shipment of available parts and sending the back ordered item later when it is available, the entire order is held back. The delays cost me significant time and the shop moves on to other projects. With a lack of momentum on my project, other jobs get put in front of mine and there are even further delays. Considering other things in the world, these problems are pretty insignificant. I have a good job and make good money. I am healthy and happily married with a strong family. So, I won't rant too much. But it is a little thing that still pisses me off. I suppose if a little thing like this pisses me off, then life must be pretty good. So, I'll shut the hell up now. Rant out. Fantastic
  15. can't PM. Is your inbox too full?
  16. is this walnut or teak? can you post photos?
  17. Drool.... What is the length of that drive shaft? I don't wanna know about the power steering set up cause you will make my broke ass cry.
  18. no illusions of free stuff for me, and I'm not in the area, but if you have any of the white plastic trim bits from the interior that are not staying with the build, please let me know. I have new white door panels, but they come unpopulated. If you are ditching the cups and inserts or any of that stuff, I'll pay for the shipping hassle and then some.
  19. you seem to be in a good location and have good luck with parts. I am enjoying watching your craigslist finds turn from scrap to gold. The door panels were priceless. I wonder if the owner of those panels was really into furbies or something lol.
  20. Very excited about the shaker base made to fit by Eric Smith from Curtis Customs in Elmsdale Nova Scotia. It looks great!
  21. after seeing the rediculous prices being asked for the lateral support bracket that holds the A/C idler pulley, I've decided to go on with more important parts of the build. I'll come back to the A/C system later if I ever find the parts at a reasonable price. We are working on wiring and we are almost ready to install the interior. Also near ready to start the engine, but everything has to be checked. In the 7 years I've had this car I've had several military posting and there have been a lot of hands on the car. Everything has to be checked and double checked.
