  1. Anyone ever run a kit like this? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gls-comst-6770s/overview/model/mustang/year/1969 Looks like install would be much easier and at the same time help preserve the originality of the car. Should help handling out a good amount and allow me to run wider tires up front (I hope). Thoughts? Has anyone ever run a kit like this? Here's another one that is negative roll as opposed to non negative roll. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/gls-comnr-6770d/overview/model/mustang/year/1969
  2. The ultimate goal for the car is an overall monster in every aspect and I expect to spend every bit of $50k on it, maybe more. However that of course will be over the next 20 years or more. But I want to be sure as I'm slowly restoring the car to be smart and move in the right direction. But to answer what the car really is, it will be a daily driver on nice days and a weekend strip car. I really want a car that handles well and can handle a serious amount of power. I'm looking for somewhere around 800 hp one day. For now it's around 400 and will probably stay that way for a while. Currently I'm running a 1975 351W stroked to 393. Installing a TKO600 and a posi 9" as soon as I figure out my suspension and framework. Do you guys think a 3 link setup would be better than a 4 link?
  3. Hey guy's been out of the loop for a while with some family stuff (almost lost my father) but everything is starting to get back to normal so I'm uncovering the beast. I know I had a thread a couple years ago about possibly doing a mustang II but I might go all out now on my 69 coupe. Basically my car needs a full resto. Shock towers, frame rails, all suspension components, everything has to be replaced. so I was thinking of doing a Mustang II front end again (I know some guys don't like them, is there another option?) and maybe a 4 link out back. I've got a 2000 GT and I would love for my 69 to handle as good if not better than that car. I just grabbed a TKO600 for her earlier this year (before my dad ended up in the hospital) and planned on swapping everything this winter but I have to deal with this suspension first. Thoughts? Opinions? Options? Don't hold anything back. TIA!
  4. Ah, was wondering if you were adapting them to a 69. I've got a set off my 2000 and was hoping they would fit my 69 easily haha.
  5. Are those newer Mustang brakes on the floor there?
  6. Do you have a link to the kit you bought? I actually have a clutch peddle in my fastback that I'm going to rob, because that car is probably going to stay an auto. Do you have any pics of your install by chance? How exactly does it go in? I'm very new to all of this and don't want to screw myself over.
  7. Is it really easier to install the hydrolic setup than a manual setup? Is it also cheaper to do?
  8. Already have a 3.91 posi 9" waiting to go in ;)
  9. I didn't plan on a hydrolic setup. I see no need for one, just complicates thing and costs more. I also like the feel of a manual clutch better. I DD a 400 HP 2000 GT with the same clutch I plan on using in my 69 and it's not bad at all. Does anyone recommend going hydrolic? If so why?
  10. Still no response from them. Does Bruce have a direct e-mail?
  11. Shot the guys at Modern Driveline an email. I'll see what they have to say. This swap is looking like it's going to cost quite a bit more than I thought it was going to haha.
  12. So after much research I have decided to shy away from swapping a T-56 into my car and go with a TKO. I picked up a TKO 600 and blow proof bellhousing with clutch fork, but so far that is all I have for the swap. I currently have a 351w with a c6 auto trans. Is there a parts list somewhere as to what else I will need? Also does anyone have any tips for me as far as how to do the swap or what to and not to buy? This is my first trans conversion so talk to me like I'm an idiot. TIA
  13. Oh god... I didn't even realize I said that. I've been spending too much time on newer stang forums since I got my 2000. I have to get back to the real cars and get my mind outta the gutter.
  14. I can't believe I'm asking this, but I always thought straight and inline were the same thing. What's the difference? Oh and would it be worth swapping in a quick ratio box? I feel like it takes forever to turn the wheels. I actually have a spare steering box I wonder which it is. Here's my spare box:
  15. My car was originally a 250 6. I heard those got the V8 brakes, did they get V8 steering components too apart from the different length lines? If that's the case that's awesome and makes things a lot easier.
  16. Hey guys I'm in the process of completely redoing my front end and I was wanting to replace all my steering lines and cylinder but I'm not sure if it has the V6 or V8 parts right now. I have a few questions. 1) What are the benefits to having V8 steering over V6 (my car was a V6 and now has a V8 in it) 2) How can I convert to the V8 steering if I have V6 steering, is the pump the same, lines etc. 3) How can I tell if I have the V8 or the V6 steering in the car now? TIA
  17. Awesome! 200 bucks for the trans mount and 225 for the engine mounts? I'm sold; that will save a lot of work. How far will I have to drop my engine to make the trans clear though. Will I have to go more than a half inch? Is there any real benefit to dropping my engine lower than that other than lower center of gravity? Also I just saw that front suspension coilover kit. Have any experience with that? I was going to redo my car with a stock suspension this spring/summer, but that could be a nice upgrade. Worth the money or should I stick to stock?
  18. That's awesome! Exactly what I was looking for. I'll definitely let you know if I have any questions. Wanna build me a cross member? I didn't read through the whole thread yet, but now I feel a little better about actually getting the T-56 in. I didn't know they made drop engine mounts for our cars. Learn something new everyday I suppose. Will dropping the engine down cause any other clearance issues?
  19. I've done all the calculations, I think I might jump to a 28 inch tall tire but I haven't decided yet. With the gear ratios you just posted and 4.10's with the power I'm making, I'll rip the tires off the car in first and probably second too. I just did 4.10's in my 2000 GT that's running a t-45 and I know that the gearing in my 2000 will be way too much gear for my 69 if I plan on using first and second gear. That's why I was going with the t-56 to get longer first and second gears, plus I like the .5:1 OD gear. I was thinking of the TKO but I've heard bad things about them. I could always do a 3650 I suppose (they're dirt cheap used), I've heard they're good for 5-600hp even though they're only rated for 360hp. I could run some 3.73 possibly to help the first few gears last a little longer and to bring it down in 5th. That trans cold be easier to swap in. The car will be drag raced but it's primary use is a weekend/fun car. EDIT: I shift it at 6k I also just looked into the gearing for the 3650 for 03 and 04 mustang GT's and it might be a nice match for my car. This is all assuming a 28 inch tire which is what I plan to switch to in the future. The 26.6 inch I have now won't change everything all that much, a little, but not drastically. 3.38, 2.00, 1.32, 1.00, 0.62 are the gear ratios. Road speed at my red line with this trans and 4.10's would be: 1st: 36 2nd: 61 3rd: 92 4th: 122 5th: 197 with 3.90's 1st: 38 2nd: 64 3rd: 97 4th: 128 5th: 207 with 3.73's: 1st: 40 2nd: 67 3rd: 102 4th: 134 5th: 216 All that said, I feel like anything under 40mph in first gear is going to be useless and not streetable because I'll have to shift so fast, not to mention if I was going wide open there is no way I would hook and there's a good chance I won't be able to hook in second either. Correct me if I'm wrong; I'm just trying to decide on the best setup. So far it looks like I should skip the t-56 because it's not really needed and will be a lot of work to install. This is all assuming the 3650 can hold 5-600 hp (my future goals).
  20. So I've been toying with the idea of swapping a t-56 into my car from a firebird, camaro or viper if I can find one cheap enough. The gear ratios are 2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 .074 .050. My car is about 400 hp 440 tq and will probably be more in the future. Do you guys think 4.10's are too much and are going to make first gear useless and possibly make things hairy in second as well and I would actually be better off with some lower gears? Should I go with 3.90's or 3.73's instead? Just looking for some opinions, I do want 3rd and 4th to pull hard too so I don't want to go to high in gearing because It will kill my top end acceleration.
  21. Probably going to just do a search online and whoever has the cheapest dynacorn boxes I'll buy them. Maybe local craigslist or ebay even.
  22. I plan on buying the torque box with the rails on it already to save myself some work. Can't hurt to replace the rail too and from what I hear it's just overall easier.
  23. Hmm, ok I'll have to see what I want to do, maybe I'll cut the whole pan out and just weld it back in when I'm done if it makes everything easier. My drivers pan has already been replaced, and my passenger pan seemed perfect but I guess I'll find out.
  24. Sweet, that definitely helps. Reading and seeing all that is making me second guess doing this myself though haha. I don't have the cut the whole floor pan out though like you did right? I just have to cut the front part somewhere?
