I agree with this. However, if you don't have any damages, you don't have a claim. When I got my contractor license, the most important thing to consider was water flow. And if you did something to divert it and cause damages, you were liable. You might want to talk to a lawyer, not the county.

Realise the value in the T-Bird and put a Windsor into the Mustang.  You can keep the T5 in it, its a DIY engine swap and changing the plugs will be a whole less pain.

Mike, like the above gentleman, I too have been away for awhile. This past year I spent practically every free minute rebuilding a house that I own that was destroyed by renters. Done with that, house is finished and on the market for sale and I'm back working on the Mustang. That aside, I'm pained in not seeing your posts here. It was always exciting to me to come to this place and see your progress and marvel in your skills. It was encouraging to me, as are you, being the person that you are. You've helped me out several times and I'm indebted to you. I know you've been there for others too. Frankly, these build threads, like yours, are paramount in drawing people to the site. I've spent hours upon days looking at the builds and gathering information (as you said, a " picture is worth a thousand words") on this website. Please, post up some quick pictures of your project from time to time.

Doing quite well, and I hope you are. Thanks for the inquiry.
As the reality of "nothing last forever" sets in, this site has lost a lot of valuable information with the deletion of thousands of pictures. I am not alone in this issue, and I am greatly saddened by the hundreds of hours of time lost documenting these wonderful builds. I would love to continue documenting my progress here but I am not up for the tons of hours to upload my pictures just to loose them again. A picture is worth a thousand words which should be shared with others. I may look into some type of secure hosting site, but for now, I'm going to continue building but unfortunately will not adding to this thread.
I will continue to be a part of the 69stang community, and look forward to a good resolution to this issue,
Thanks to all who contributed to this thread, and I hope to revive it one day.

If that video ain't enough, LA County has a new Public Defender...oops, I meant District Attorney who is lefter than left. Here is an Op Ed piece the Kern County DA wrote in the local paper. Everything she says is true.

Bakersfield Californian Op Ed Piece by Kern County District Attorney, Cynthia J. Zimmer
A Public Service Announcement For Kern’s Criminals:
“Are you a convicted felon with a history of violent crime? A murderer? Rapist? Child Molester? Human trafficker? Armed Robber? Drunk driver who kills?  Do you take pleasure in using firearms to ratchet up body counts in all types of crimes? Do you think it unfair that your history of violent crimes makes your punishment for new crimes higher? If so, I have an exciting opportunity for you.
On December 7, Los Angeles County swore in its newly elected District Attorney, George Gascón. Gascón immediately pledged to make Los Angeles a sanctuary for criminals by announcing his refusal to enforce the most basic state laws designed to address serious, violent, and repeat offenders. There’s a catch though – his authority only extends to Los Angeles County. Here in Kern County, you’re stuck with me: A District Attorney that will strive to enforce laws and demand that crime victims receive justice.
Criminals, you really must ask yourselves – why continue living in Kern County when you can take your criminal activity to Los Angeles, where you will be greeted with open arms? Let me share why relocation of your criminal activity is really in your best interest.
First, Gascón has declared he will not allege a defendant’s prior ‘strike’ convictions in new criminal cases – ever. Ironically, on the day he swore an oath to uphold the laws of California, Gascón immediately vowed to break them. Prior strikes are legally required to be alleged by prosecutors. For you criminals, that means that the new LA DA is literally willing to break the law to ensure you don’t face the punishment you deserve!
Need more? Consider this: When arrested for felonies like Domestic Violence, Elder Abuse, Child Abuse, and Rape of an Unconscious Person – the DA will actively fight in court for your immediate release back onto the street without need to post bail. Who needs a defense attorney when the DA is already on your side! Just “promise to appear” at your next court date and you walk free. Do you really think victims will testify when they know you are free to retaliate and there is little consequence for criminal behavior?  Gascón has also proclaimed that he will seek the lowest punishment possible in every case and will even advocate for early release of already convicted life-inmates.
Violent gang members can also sleep easier in LA, knowing that gang crimes will be ignored, as Gascón has decreed that laws targeting gang-related crime will not be enforced. At the same moment that he is releasing criminals from jail with no assurance that they appear in court, Gascón has also declared he will not seek the lawful penalties for those who reoffend while they are released pending trial.
When Gascón left his DA position in San Francisco to seek control in LA, the President of the San Francisco Police Officers’ Association issued an ominous warning:
“We are praying for the residents of Los Angeles hoping that George Gascón does not do to their city what he did for San Francisco during his tenure; double digit increases in crime…cars broken into by the thousands and neighborhoods ravaged by open air drug markets and crime…We are happy he will be leaving San Francisco but feel he is taking his record of failure to an even larger county where he can cause even more harm to public safety.”
In Kern County, the District Attorney’s Office will continue to be an ally to victims and the community in our fight against crime. Gascón has taken the opposite approach. When confronted by the mother of a murder victim who opposed his policies, Gascón replied that she and anyone else who opposed early release of killers were “too uneducated to shut their mouths for once.” Gascón’s contempt toward victims and disregard for the law are designed to benefit criminals at every turn. I pray for victims in LA who are being abandoned by their DA and oppose nearly every policy for which Gascon stands.  Criminals hoping for Gascón-style treatment in Kern County can stop holding their breath, because its not going to happen under my watch.”

There are several problems with electric cars:
    1. Range anxiety is probably the biggest. They have limited range and it takes many hours to recharge them. The battery technology just isn't there for a long range dependable power source that is easy to recharge.
    2. The materials for the current choice of lithium ion batteries have been described as rare earths. Some dispute that and say they aren't really rare, they are just difficult to get and new mining techniques need to be developed.
    3. What about the infrastructure to support electric cars. Our electric transmission systems are at the brink of failure every summer when air conditioners kick on, and now they want to add more load? Think about the expense for hotels that will have to power large car parks. Restaurants would need charging stations too- if any are left after covid. Any place where you park your car would need charging stations.
    4. This isn't a CLEAN process, you have to manufacture the batteries, and dispose of the old ones which makes the whole process pretty toxic. How about generating more power- how are you going to do that? The number one fuel for producing electricity in the US is natural gas. That's good, but number two is coal, and they hate that, and don't even mention nuclear. Wind and solar ain't gonna get it. They are going to have to burn more hydrocarbons. Now what does that do to their precious carbon footprint?
And still our glorious left wing liberal representatives and academics want more electric cars...at least until they are inconvenienced by them.

Crazyhorse reacted to latoracing in Replacing rear quarters 1969 Mustang
Take measurements of everything before you tear it apart. Some of the after market parts are close to stock, but might be off a little, and cause problems. I have replaced the entire rear of my '70 FB, except for the rear frame rails, and half of the trunk transition. I still have it up on jack stands, just used some extra bracing here and there, along with checking the measurements frequently. I also screwed the entire rear of the car together with sheet metal screws before I welded anything permanent, to check the fit of the various parts. Take your time, measure and check before major trimming, or welding. It will be like new in no time.

Time to get back to something funner, filling in the quarter marker lights. I can't just grab a piece of sheet metal and weld it in place, well, I could but Vic wouldn't be pleased with the results. I cut out some templates of the area for filler material shaping and to check the shape after everything is welded in place. The templates were of the passenger side quarter as the driver's side has some damage, which i'll get in shape before I install the patch.

Using a orange stripper wheel revealed a bunch of previous "repairs" that were covered in filler. The tail light panel has a fairly good size goose egg shaped divot close to the tail light opening, its pretty bad. Might as well get that back in shape while I'm here. Cut out another template and checked the profile of the area, not good.

In order to fix these areas the paint had to come off on both sides, more orange striper disc time.

The upper section had been pushed in as well, so it was pulled and hammered back in to position. I have been using a shrinking disc for over a year on different issues, mainly self inflicted distortion when fabricating parts. It is nothing more than a stainless steel disc with a backing plate on my 4.5" grinder. It is not abrasive, but when you use it on the dented area (mainly on the inside of the trunk panel) a little soapy water helps lubricate it. Keeping the disc flat to the surface, as much as possible, you run it over the area with enough pressure to keep it on the part, no more. This heats the metal enough to quench it with the soapy water solution. Wipe off the excess water and repeat until the dent is gone.

A little work, some pulling by hand and a little hammer / dolly time it looks like this.

This area had a bad oil canning to it when you pushed on the panel. That is now gone and as you can see the shape is really nice. I have some more little areas to planish out but this could be shot with filler primer and blocked out. I like my shrinker disk

I am very sorry to hear this and feel your pain.  It turns my stomach to think that this could happen. I also, can identify with your over 60 thoughts... well put. In my case i am 62 and dealing with a progressive medical issue and wonder every day if I will remain healthy enough over the next few years to finish my car and drive it.
It may be a little too late, but I strongly suggest...
You should check the storage facility and your local police and find out if there were any other reported thefts at that facility during that period. If not then, your unit was potentially targeted and not just picked at a random. That might help you narrow down who the perpetrator might be.
Keep an eye out locally on facebook for someone posting about the "new" TKO trans and suspension parts, or on craiglist for sale.
Call your insurance company and ask if your policy would cover your belongings if you stored them outside the home and inside a storage unit. Ask to be directed to that part of your policy and read it in detail.  See if there are any items the current policy won’t cover. typically cash and jewelry are not covered by tenant insurance, for instance.
Find out if you need to take out a separate rider on your current policy and what that will cost you per month to cover your unit.
Finally, change units. The thief now knows where to find your stuff and add the rest of you valuable stuff to you homeowners or tenant insurance policy.

Thank you, Buckeye! I actually went to your build thread to see if I could find a picture of that area but unfortunately your pictures are hosed. What an incredibly sad thing too, as that build is the best I've seen on the web. It was also an incredible motivator for me.  Are you hosting your pictures anywhere, such that one can view them?

Just put her away... logged about 100 miles... and 10,000 smiles... :) :) :)

Yes, she still needs help... suspension is starting to make bad noises... surprisingly nothing is leaking.. yet... I need a new throttle cable bad.. shifter needs rebuilding horribly.. can't hardly get into park anymore.. still needs timing and carb adjustments... she idles wonderfully... it's not fast at all.. in fact she's very mad at anything more than half throttle... but the torque is incredible.. quarter throttle and you're at 65mph in no time flat!

The turbo mufflers I installed in I think 1980 are gone... the bottoms are completely rusted out... as I backed her into the garage... it reminded me of Christine a bit too much... even my wife said the same.. (the garage door opened and you slowly backed in.. just like Christine)...

Biggest issue is hot start problems... the gas boils in the carburetor when she's at temp... today after a nice long run with temps in high 80s and backing her slowly in the garage she was at 210F per IR gun.. you can actually hear the gas boiling in the carb.. the carb was 160F per the same IR gun.. Pretty minor problem.. but we'll fix.

About all I can truly say.. it's surreal.. I've had this car before I met my beautiful wife... I courted her in this car..,. it's been covered for 33+ years... it's surreal...
